Hot gearlever

Would anybody know why the chrome rod of the gearlever on my W208 CLK320 gets pretty hot when the car has been running awhile. be grateful for any ideas. Cheers Willie

Metals are good thermal conductors compared to leather and plastic.
So do you think it's likely that it is just the sun heating up the chrome in this good weather we've been having?
