My Hotmail account has automatically migrated to an Outlook account (in the name of progress ).

Same email address, with a hotmail.co.uk suffix, however, when I log on all that's in my inbox is a new "welcome" email and nothing else.

All previous emails are gone :dk:..

Any ideas?

if you were .com before you should still be .com now. I am. The only change is the user interface not your email address AKAIK. Just try your old address.

It was hotmail.co.uk before - exactly the same as now, with the same password.

My hotmail.com address is working fine in the new Outlook.

Did you always access it through a browser?

Sometimes yes, sometimes through favourites.

Sounds like you have created a new account with a different suffix?

I've had my hotmail since '97 and been on outlook over a year with my same email address.

+1

I have a .com and mine migrated a long time ago with no problems

Have u logged in after a long time John? This migration should have happened a long time ago

Have you looked in your POP folder John?

I seem to remember that grabbed some of mine when they changed mine over...

Yes Bob, there has been a significant gap between my last log in and this latest, possibly months, however, there were plenty of emails in the old Hotmail account - I was using it to deal with an energy provider mid to late last year.

All gone now, and the welcome message is dated today.

It's as if it's started again :dk:.

I think they delete accounts pretty quickly if you don't access it for a period - not long, like 30 days.

Edited: A quick Google suggests at 270 days they delete everything apart from the account, then at 360 days they delete the account.

I thought it was quicker than that - my wife lost a nice hotmail address and someone else grabbed it.

Its 270 days...

Free Windows Live Hotmail accounts become inactive if you don't sign in for more than 270 days or within the first 10 days after signing up for an account. After an account becomes inactive, all messages, folders, and contacts are deleted.

It then seems that it has been deleted for some reason or another? I would initially go with what Karl said (you opened a new account) but you would need to put in more than just your email and password to create a new account.

I bet that's it - t&sspots!

Just because I don't use it regularly doesn't mean I won't be using it again :(.

Link it to your tablet or phones email client, everytime it looks for new messages counts as logging in. If you rarely use the account you won't get any emails or notifcations and the account will never close.
