An all-black interior is so funereal so how do I go about adding some colour? I'm thinking dark red door panels (they are so plain & cheap looking) & maybe red seat inserts, the latter in dark red leather to match door cards. All this to co-ordinate with red stitching of seats. Even just red door cards would lift the interior. Could they be colour changed in-situ perhaps?

What is it with people not liking black interiors.

Can I ask why you purchased a car with an interior you are not satisfied or happy with?

Buying used was a challenge seeking the ideal specification & the black interior/red stitching was the ONLY negative as everything else was perfect. Better than all black the red stitching does lift the blackness slightly together with red piping to the floor mats although the dark wood trim does not help(!) but could have waited years for my preferred red seat/door car interior.
It's the cheap plainness of the door cards that irritates most only slightly relieved by the HK speaker grilles.

Could always fit a lighter colour interior to a non less funeral colour. Do a swap/ switch over.

There are lots of companies who can reupholster car interiors. They can do it as good as new, or better. Your hardest decision would be deciding how much you want to spend.

PS, I'm completely with you on the drabness of black interiors. Unfortunately MBUK seem to think that's what everyone wants so it's what most cars get!

All I really need is for the vast plain blackness of the central door card section that includes the HK speakers to be slightly textured to match the seat texturing & in dark red. At the very least some red stitching to match the seats might be enough but I guess the entire door card would have to be removed. Am aware there are companies to do this, many hawking their wares & services at Goodwood Breakfast Meets except I never noted the company contact details. Will be making some enquiries in the new year.

Agreed, there are lots of options depending upon budget. Personally I would speak to local coach trimmers in the first instance and then try a few big names (such as d:class automotive - specialists in automotive interiors and upholstery )even if they’re further away.

The could retrim the whole interior at one end of the spectrum or trim the armrests/doorcard at the other. Alternatively they may be able to do something in the middle like replace some panels in the existing seat covers.

With you on this one, black can be quite dull. I managed to get some faux leather seat covers in grey & black which brightened it up a bit.IMG_0961.JPG

It is a matter of taste. I am not interested in a black interior, described by the MEMERC7 as "funereal" and I agree. For my part, I wouldn't purchase a car with an interior I am not happy with.

I don't buy the idea that everyone wants black, which is the story told time and again by the dealer. What I don't get is why Mercedes Benz UK makes decisions that limit customer choice. I didn't buy my wife a new B-Class because the car didn't (until very recently) have the option of a light colour interior. What is odd about this is that the light colour was available in other markets (continent and Eire), so this is just a configuration switch that will change the build at the factory. Even more irritating is that the UK brochure and web site pics at that time showed the car with a beautiful light colour interior even though it wasn't a UK option.

That is also exactly why my most recent car isint a merc, didnt want the chrome on the outside, ticked that box and now the whole interior has been dictated to black! No thank you!

I wanted two tone seats when I was looking but could not find a car with them in unless the car had a poor spec so sacrificed the seats and got an all black interior. I don't actually mind it and in fact quite like it now.

Your options are to re-dye, re-trim, swap out the seats or some seat covers (nasty)
