Hi there,

Another house renovation question... I kno, I know!

Was wondering what products to use to give a rich light oak finish to some new pine?

Essentially I am looking to make these cheap Ikea tables, sort of, match my bed.

Ikea tables: IKEA | Bedroom storage | Chests of drawers | RAST | Chest of 3 drawers

My bed: Beds :: Fixed Beds :: Oak Kingsize Bed - Futon Company. Futons, Sofa Beds, Lighting, Textiles & Storage delivered across the UK from our online store

Thanks

Best of luck as I doubt you'll get a decent match. Have you considered painting them? Would look better IMHO. Pine is pine & oak is oak (unless it's plastic laminate ;))

'Fiddes' was the last wax that I used, worked well but patience needed.

Coloured wax is the easiest bet, though your request sounds simple ,in fact it is quite hard.
If you use a water or spirit based dye the absorption rate is different across each piece of pine were there are knots.
You could try a light coating of french polish on a rag, depends on your skill.
You are not using the polish to gat a piano type finish, just to stain.
Always try on the rear or inside the drawers. you can also tint the polish with earth colours, all this kit should be available at your local decent woodyard
