How can I value and sell a very low mileage E500 estate?

The X3 is only a 4% shorter than your S211 but over 20% wider.
The new X3 is not a small car.

I also had a 335i sport touring and the X3 is a huge car compared with that.
I went from my 335i into my S211, and I agree, the load space on offer and comfort was fantastic, I also agree a bigger garage would be the best idea here too. ;)
 
Wow, really? I didn't realise they were that big. I'll have to have a look again. I'd put them down as a smaller version of the old shape X5.

I've been at home doing errands this week, skipping from the E500 to the SL500, the wife's little sports car, and the runaround. They're all great in their own way. I just need a bit more parking space, and someone to come round wash them while there's so much pollen about.

Although one day I must find out why the SL500's gearbox settings are more like a Greyhound, whereas the E500 seems more like a Labrador. They're both as fast, but the SL500 seems to immediately want to scoot off. (Maybe it's me)

As an ex W210 E430 Estate owner, and current 450SL owner, a W211 E500 is the next (ill)logical step for me :)

Thanks for your interest. I know I ought to get round to doing this in September, but I haven’t got my act together just yet.

In essence, both my wife and my children are nagging me to get something smaller that they will feel comfortable driving, and which the children specifically can be insured to drive. Whereas I’m saying this thing is too nice to let go – even though most of my actual driving is done in my SL500.

Anyway, I’ll come back to you in a month’s time, once I’ve sorted it all out.....but I can’t guarantee that I will because I may just bribe them with another car and keep this regardless.

Nice car. Originally bought by an 82 year old who kept it until he sold it to me. Main dealer serviced every year until the last “D” service, which was done a specialist. Genuinely immaculate throughout except for one discreet bumper scuff. Excellent because it’s been garaged and cared for its entire life. But photos will show the full story.

(BTW - I tried to reply to you personally via MB Club but your email settings won't let me, so I've had to reply publicly on this)

I would have PM'd you but I haven't reached the 30 post count yet. I had registered with an out of date email address which is why you couldn't PM me but I've have updated this now.

Prior to my E430 Estate (2001) I had an E320 Estate (1998), both petrol I hasten to add. The outright performance difference wasn't huge but where the 320 felt adequate the 430 had a lovely effortless, relentless feeling :cool:

Because it was so quiet it was hard to tell that there was actually a V8 under the bonnet of the E430 but it was never less than creamily smooth. My old 450SL's NASCAR soundtrack leaves you in no doubt how many cylinders lay under the bonnet! I certainly couldn't countenance a diseasel motor powering my next luxowagon no matter how many gravelly coated torques it served up.

I think it was suggested earlier but to get a value guide take the car to your local MB stealer and see what they'd give you in trade against a new (or used) A or B class which might suit the smaller/more economical brief the rest of the family are after. You'll get more selling it privately but it will a) take longer and b) you'll have to put up with the usual tyre kickers, dreamers, chancers, idiots and wierdos :doh: (I'm all of these by the way ;))

I'd appreciate a heads up when you're finally ready to part with the old bus.

Thanks to the half a dozen or so people who have messaged me over the last three months about selling the car. Apologies for not replying properly - for some stupid reason, the forum won't let me respond to the individual emails - I can't work out if it's because I'm too new or if there's some other issue.

Anyway, jumping to the bottom line, I've still got my wife whining about reducing the fleet and getting something else that the teenagers can drive as a luggage lugger, but I just haven't been able to bring myself to list it yet.
 
September update

It's still a beggar to work out to price this thing. I haven't seen a single 50k mile E500 listed anywhere of this age, let alone an Estate car, so I don't know how to work out a sensible price: £3k trade for a perfect Estate car, with a dozen Main Dealer services?

Anyway, thanks for the help and comments. I will have to sell this thing at some point soon, it's just it's tough to let a perfect car go.... But when I do, I will update this listing and put it on this website.

Trade price means little with a car like this.

Right at the bottom of the page you are looking at you will find another toolbar. One of the tools is "Contact us" clicky on that and ask the nice man behind the bar to enable you PM facility. Or reply to my post and you are down to three more to post.

But where do I find a price for an immaculate, high spec, 50k miles, essentially one owner 2004 E500?

Answer is that you won't find a price for one in such condition. Unless someone wants that specific model and is after an absolutely mint example, it'll be a slow sale waiting for that one person.

Have a look on Autotrader/Pistonheads and price it based on the top end of the ones you see for sale. That's all you can do as there's no hard and fast rule for mint examples of cars.

To give you an idea, I have a 2006 RenaultSport Megane in my garage. I bought it new and it only has 3,250 miles on the clock. Now and average one of these goes for £3k for a rough one £5k for a minter but there's none out there with that kind of mileage. So how would I price it? I'd could price it to sell or price it for what I deem it to be worth but chances of someone wanting to pay what I'd want is highly unlikely.

It's a very tricky thing and very subjective unfortunately. Good luck with it though mate.
