How do I enable Apple CarPlay on my 2018 A Class AMG Line?

Hi there,

So I purchased a 2018 Jupiter Red A160 AMG Line yesterday. Looks amazing, very happy with it. I did a VIN search on it a few days ago prior to purchase and saw this in the report:

• 15U PRE-INSTALLATION SMARTPHONE INTEGRATION MB LINK
• 16U SMARTPHONE INTEGRATION APPLE CARPLAY
• 17U SMARTPHONE INTEGRATION ANDROID AUTO

I assumed that CarPlay would be activated, but playing around with the system earlier today, it seems not.

Does anyone know how can I activate CarPlay? And is it expensive?

Also, while I can connect my iPhone to the car via Bluetooth, I can't see how to access my Contacts. Any clues?

OMG!!! Mr. B - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I'm not very techie - and I thought that CarPlay would connect over Bluetooth after connecting my iPhone

After watching the video you linked to, and doing some Googling, I realised that I need to physically connect the phone via the lightning cable for CarPlay to work

Anyhow - it's all working now. And I can see my Contacts through CarPlay too!

Absolutely no taking the Michael! In fact, really grateful for your assistance. CarPlay is so much nicer than the built in system.

On a slightly different but Apple-related note, any idea why every time I put my iPhone on the wireless charging pad in the car it automatically opens my payment screen and my credit card pops up?!?

Sounds weird. If you wirelessly charge your iPhone outside of the car (assuming you have a wireless charging pad at home or work) does it charge normally, without the Wallet app popping up with your credit cards?

If it does, maybe your in-car charger has some sort of NFC chip in it, which your phone thinks is an NFC terminal and so is being helpful by showing your cards? Don't know what you could do about that, though.

Also, this might have something to do with your location settings. Go into the Settings app, and tap Privacy. Then, under Location Services, temporarily disable location tracking for the wallet app. Does the issue still occur?

That's just Mercedes' way of being helpful. They take £10 per trip off your credit card so that when something breaks you don't have a heart attack when they tell you the cost. You'll probably have paid for 50% of it by then.

Its because the charging pad has a NFC chip for authentication (so you can start car with the phone present), and iPhones display the wallet when they see a NFC chip - which interupts the bluetooth audio streaming too :-(

Although I do like nickpb's theory.

Have you plugged your phone in under the armrest? You’ll need to plug it into the USB closest to the driver and then unlock your phone
