I’m thinking about replacing the front tyres on my GLC 250D 20 inch wheels because they’re starting to be worn. I’ve never had to deal with these kinds of things since this is my first car so any info would be much appreciated. My first question would be the cost, does anyone know what a pair of front all season tyres would cost on this car? I’m taking this to Mercedes to have them change it. Also, for those that have had their tyres changed with Mercedes, how long does it usually take to have then swapped? And just one more thing, with the GLC’s crabbing issue, is there a specific type or brand I should be looking at or does it not matter at all?
Thanks

Well Tom look on the side of the tyres and it will give you the details that you can enter into the net to find the tyres you want at a decent price,do not take it to MB to change tyres unless you have money to burn other posters will answer what tyres to buy for your car.

Do not go to Mercedes to get them changed. They will just take it to the local tyre company & charge you extra for the privilege. Phone around a few tyre companies to get the best price or google them. Most on line, all you do is put in your reg number & up pops your tyre size & a list of tyres with prices. Blackcircles is usually good or the usual's like Kwikfit or National tyres. As for makes someone will be along to guide you on this. Don't buy the cheapest. If your just driving normally, mid price or premium if your flush. Taking it to a tyre company, they will do it while you wait, less than an hour for all four.

Many MB dealerships will price match, so don't rule them out but once you know the tyre you want ask them for a quote for supply and fit. My local dealership had a tyre fitting station onsite, though I can't say for sure if it was manned by MB staff.
At least if you get a price from the dealer you know what to try and beat! That said I'd be happier for the dealer to be responsible for my rims, just in case....

Hi Tom welcome to the forum, why not go on the internet put in your tyer size and see what comes up there are lots to choose from if you want a similar make, compare prices from different dealers, most include fitting and balancing. If you go to MB dealer, you'll pay through the nose. I just bought two rears for mine 19s from Asda on the net, it included fitting and balance from a local to me garage at no extra cost, and a lot less than most, they deliver to the nominated garage, you ring them and arrange a time that suits simples. Good luck. 👍

Lots of helpful info guys, thanks. Honestly, never having to deal with any car issues it feels a little intimidating when it comes to tyre fitting, I’m looking into other companies that fit tyres and the online tool that some of you mentioned too. Thanks again!

Wherever you take it, make sure the fitters 'accidentally' see you taking pictures of all four wheels 'just in case'.

I use a company called 'TyresOnTheDrive' (there are plenty of others) who do exactly what it says on the van. I can usually beat their prices by a little (all done online), but it's worth the extra for the convenience; you make the appointment, they turn up, and half an hour later you're good to go.

+1 for TOTD.

In my experience, they clean the wheels where they intend to stick balance weights (stops them flying off at speed and then causing wheel-wobble) and use a torque-wrench when doing up your wheel bolts later (stops them being impossible to remove or them working loose and disappearing). Good prices too and you can choose when and where (assuming they cover your area although you can choose to have them turn up to a work place too).

In the absence of experience, I'd probably replace with what you have already unless you are not happy with them.

I understand from the so-called "crabbing" issue that you need to fit Winter tyres or run smaller wheels to resolve it.

For the number of times it happens, I'd probably live with it personally.

I've read in many places that all season (vs the factory installed summer tyres) will help greatly with the crabbing.

MB fitted Bridgestone all weather tyres to my c43 and that stopped the crabbing.
I haven't bought tyres for a while but when I have, I've used the Blackcircles website.

Did you get all 4 corners changed?

OP not sure you'd want to go all weather only on the front if your backs are summers?

Unless you have good reason not to, you should be strongly considering fitting exactly the same as before (inc brand) as the rear tyres are to be left on.

Yes all 4 the same. I had just bought it as a pre reg and wasn't happy with it doing the skipping thing when I was getting it in and out of my tight drive. The dealer (Tamworth) said I would have to buy them so I got in touch with Mercedes themselves who passed it to AMG in Germany. They got in touch with the dealer and told them to fit new tyres :)

I've used blackcircles many times over the years, simply enter your registration and available tyres and sizes will be there, you can then select the tyre and where and when you want them fitted. Pay on-line turn up and bobs your uncle.

Thanks for all the responses. After more thorough researched I decided to go for the exact same ones as I have now.

I currently have all seasons on all 4 which is supposed to make the crabbing somewhat less of an issue, like some of you have mentioned and after checking out other user posts about their summer tyres and the damage they had just after 10-15k miles, mine is in great condition compared to those that I’ve seen on here. I’m also getting into the habit of not using the full lock as much unless absolutely necessary so we’ll see how that goes. I’ll be going to merc to have the tyres changed since it’s a new car and I still prefer to have everything done by them, even if it costs a bit more that way.

To each their now, but literally no point getting Merc to change your tyres. If anything they know less about changing tyres than a specialist tyre centre
