I'm sure it's very straightforward, but I don't want to break anything. Can anyone tell me how to take off the cover of the steering wheel in the photo below.

I saw a couple of guides for W124's and W202's but they dont explain how to remove the cover. Thank you for any help.

I think you should send me it instead.

found this online;

Use a small screw driver and remove the trim motif from the center of the of the steering wheel. Use an Allen wrench socket and extension and remove the wheel retaining bolt. Remove the wheel from the shaft.

What he said with one addition.

Be careful of hitting yourself in the face with the steering wheel when it does eventually pull free. :D

Thanks. Ill give that a go - the wood is very handsome, but the leather stitching is good, but not excellent.

Thanks - I'll stick my gum shield in first.

The bolt holding it in place will be bloody tight. You'll need a nice long breaker bar to undo it and a 12 or 14mm allen bit (cant recall which now).

Another thing, dont rely on the steering lock to hold the wheel. Use an assistant to hold the UNLOCKED wheel whilst undoing the nut. Failure to do so could ruin the lock and then we are into mega pounds.

+ 1

:(

I wouldnt use too long a breaker bar as if the allen bolt does not stay centred you will round it off..

I have just had to drill out the bolt on my new W123 Coupe.

We have the same wheel by the way!

After you have the center out the horn moulding peels off from around the edges. Start centre top and you'll see.

As per Spike post #3 leaving the bolt in a few turns will stop it flying anywhere.

New wheel is now on. With the 10mm Allen key, breaker, bar, strong assistant and a dollop of all your good advice. The nut was a cow to take off. Looks and feels great.

Photos will follow soon.
