Being polite has failed so I'm about to take action. I've a new neighbour who thinks nothing of parking directly opposite my Drive which is on a narrow street which makes it impossible to get the ML out, despite being told to stop it, it goes on.

So me gets a clapped out vauxhall nova & parks it on the street next to my house just down from my drive that way they will have to park down the street a bit behind me leaving a nice clear run out the drive. Not having that are they! they now decide to park behind me but on the opposite side of the street they are so close that no cars can get up or down the street.

Police tell me that if they come across this they will charge both of us despite the fact that i'm legally parked & the car has not moved from there for 2 months.

I am completely sick of these ignorant ****s, what really P*$$*s me of is they have 2 driveways & never park in them. If I move the nova back a couple of meters or so they will encroach on the 10M from a junction zone so I could always report them then move the Nova out of the way before the police turn up.

Anyone suggest a legal(ish) solution to teach them how to behave, I don't really want to get a fleet of novas as eventually I will get done for littering.

Hypothetically speaking of course  , if you know a 'dodgy geezer' perhaps crossing his palm with silver would enable him to send some local scallies round in an old wreck which they could pile into it and then scarper.

The police as we well know, would take all the details but in all likelihood nothing would be done about it. It might make them think twice about leaving their car in the street instead of their driveway.

Not very legal i'm afraid, but if you have tried being polite, and met with ignorance and rudeness then sometimes this is the only option....

Unfortunately, in my experience if neighbours are of the "ignorant ****" type then they will be completely immune to reasonable requests or any attempt to "teach them how to behave". :(

Fortunately I have great neighbours both sides of me but my parents have had nightmares with one set of their neighbours that they share a driveway with. The son used to try and run a car repair business out the back of the house and thought nothing of dumping wrecks up the shared driveway. Court injunctions eventually sorted them out but relations have been frosty ever since and even now they will sometimes park across the driveway entrance so that my dad would have no chance of taking the car out.

Don't know what to suggest really. You can keep trying the reasonable request route but it sounds like your efforts will fall on deaf ears.

You could always invest in a set of disposable 'roo bars for the ML

i sympathise, We had a shared access to speparate driveays with a neighbour and after 5 years of arguments and frostiness, we moved . these people have no morals and couldnt care less about the effect their actions have on others. same scenario where the MIL lives - we cant park near her house cos of the other sc*otes & shes 84 & has angina. if we do park after less than 2 mins people are hooting for us to move.

I did shunt one out of the way once (at another house on a narrow terraced cul de sac ) who had blocked me in and left it at an angle across the road. that person never bothered me again .

Maybe just put your ML into low ratio and gently push the offending car out of your way .

kill them... maybe not

this is not as easy is it seems...
Bomb their car? not sensible...
It takes a solicitor, a video camera, a court case and tons of time to resolve this...

Have you considered using the "obstruction to oncoming cars" to the cops with a video to prove how stupid they are?

Or try the Citizens Advise Bureau to see if they know how one can terminate these idiots...

I will look around and ask ... If I hear I will report back...

p.s. I had a reverse knock with a neighbour and the insurance say it is 50/50 incident with both parties... I agree to some extent by the dent is so small I can find an ant more than the dent... yet they are now not talking to us !!! How bloody stupid..

Speak to your local authority Highways Department. They can sometimes take enforcement action if there is a persistant problem parker who causes obstructions.

I also think approaching the authority might be the best course of action. Maybe some double yellow lines might be the answer.

Use the biblical principal.

Buy a nice bottle of wine, go across the road, apologise for any inconvenience you have caused them (even though you have not! ) give them the wine. They will go into complete shock and embarrasment. Explain issue.

Be extremely nice but firm on every occasion, say "Hello" even if they ignore you.

This has the effect of causing them to "burn with shame" and you to feel really great (even though you may still hate them and at some point will have to forgive them). In other words they will get more wound up than you. If you want the bible reference I can find it. Jesus was an expert on neighbourhood parking problems ;) .

It worked for me with my neighbours they moved two weeks ago and now they have moved and we have nice new ones! :bannana:

Don't let it get to you, life is too short. All the energy you spend trying to stitch them up could be spent polishing that nice new ML :D

I'm with Goldfish on this one :)

write it off

No seriously just have some big lettering on the nover pointing out why you park it there, explain about the a/hole opposite and how the problem could be resolved and if anyone had a fire or needed a ambulance further down the road how would the emergency services have access. ;)

This sounds awfull but I had a similair problem a few years ago. After many attempts to rectify the situation politely I gave up and threatened to rip his head off.
After this silly action I was visited by the police and told to calm down but the problem never arose again.
A silly way of going about it but it worked. I can only take so much crap of one person

BTW I don't recommend this course of action

I'm with Goldfish too, and why not knock on the door when you need to move the ML and very politely apologise for the inconvenience but 'could you move your car so I can get mine out of my drive....?'

The key thing is not to wait for an answer but simply say thank you and walk back to your car and start moving it, they'll then have to come out of their house no matter what....

Alternatively park your nova where they park then you can move it yourself when you need too....

Well done Goldfish.Wise advice!

Get an old transit van and side swipe their car one late night (or some dodgy geeza fromt he pub....) - that will make them think twice parking on public road again!!! Same thing happened to us (at our previosu hosue) and it would make it very difficult to get the CL/S Class out of the drive. I came close to taking action but one day they got the hint when I was about to march across to their house whilst they were in the drive and my dad had to physiclly restrain me and pull me back.

Or they just close the door and ignore you. You are left sitting in your car, they are indoors!

If you were closer I have a friend who could resolve this for you very quickly. ;)

As it is I suggest if you have a friend who maybe has a wreck of a car 'accidentally' reverse out of your drive and into theirs. "Opps sorry but if you will park there". Alternatively, clamp their car!

Sometimes after you have exhausted all reasonable avenues, the only language that some people understand is the language of force.

Its up to you, there are many suggestions here in this thread from many people, none of which I am advocating.

cant crash into their car as they will just claim it from your (or your mate's) insurance

i suggest going to the authorities on basis of them blocking the road. another idea is to go out in the dead of night and accidently scratch the side of their car with the nova's wing mirror..... make it look as if someone has gone passed and hit their car.?

so....

ask them politley
go to authorities
if all else fails accidently damage their car

Hell is other people.

Solutions !!! (reply With What U Think!)

im not immune to this problem like many others in the forum. i have had annoying neighbours for almost 3 years now. i used to own a vauxhall cavalier til Dec 2003 and never had a problem parking, but ever since i bought my merc the problems have gone from bad to worse! my neighbours i think are more than anything quite jealous! :D anyway they park across my drive as and when they feel like. and no amount of informing them to move thier vehicle in a nice samaritan manner led to sucess. so then i took the alternative. everyday 100metres away from my humble abode i have to ring at my neighbours to move their car, be it in rain sleet or snow. they take their time opening the door then they eventually move thier car from my drive 10mins later. no sooner my car gone into my drive, they edge thier car right alongside my drive. my solution simple! for a couple of nights i caught a movie on telly and stayed awake til 2am! then at 2am! i went and woke my neighbours up at 2am to shift thier car so i can get out. went to my local 24hour tescos returned and asked them again to thier car so i can get into my drive! you shoud have seen thier sleepy Pissd off faces! but it worked! a couple of days later they caught my drift! now they never put their cars across my drive especially at night! now i get a wide berth! :) . the alternative is to get a disabled designated parking space painted on the road in front of your house or drive. or baseball bat approach. personally id rather find out where there car is on a friday night and key it! i have a friend and he did summut really funky! his neighbour was peeing him off evading hios parking space so he bought a large van long van which takes up about 3 car spaces, quite tall an all, and he parked it outside his neighbours house for 6 months, he bought it in the dead of night, and left it there, and denied it was his when asked! not only did the neighbours not get a parking space, but a large truck like shadow blocked their view and sunlight! it was a cruel and expensive trick but it worked £700 for an old lorry, £200 for tax and insurance! my friends neighbour even called the police out, but they couldnt do anything as it wasnt blocking there drive, and it was legally parked and had a valid road tax! so yeh! hell its worth a try! let them learn the lesson the hard way! i ended up buying their property cheap prob cos they got fed up of this looming figure outside their bay window! :) by the way the police, well they are useless. contacted my local MP he did a better job!
