160 at Vmax. But I was hitting the limiter half way down the runway.. I wonder how much faster it would have gone after a de-limit?

Cheers,

Having started this thread, I started to look into the legal penalties for driving over 100mph on the public road. Basically a driving ban and £2500 fine seems to be the max. However, if the driving were to cause a fatal accident then I found this little lot can apply.

How heavy are the penalties?

The penalties depend on which of the following offences may have been committed:
Causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs (Section 3A Road Traffic Act (RTA) 1988)
Penalty: 1 to 14 years in prison, an unlimited fine, or both; and disqualified for a minimum of two years;
Causing death by dangerous driving (Section 1 RTA 1988)
Penalty: 1 to 14 years in prison, and disqualified for a minimum of two years;
Causing death by careless, or inconsiderate, driving (Section 20 Road Safety Act 2006)
Penalty: Up to 5 years in prison, and disqualified for a minimum of one year;
Causing death by driving: unlicensed, disqualified, uninsured drivers (Section 21, Road Safety Act 2006)
Penalty: Up to 2 years in prison, an unlimited fine, or both; and disqualified for a minimum of one year;
Murder or manslaughter
Penalty: Up to life-imprisonment, and disqualified for a minimum of two years

I'd had mine delimited for the occasion, but seeing the Monaros go pop put me off a bit.

There's always next time... Should do 175 without any mods.

I hear diesels every bloody morning when they start up!
Me too!!! EVERYONE of the neighbours in my close has a (4 pot) diesel and they all leave for work at the same time - the noise is truly disgusting! :D

Anyone doing speeds over 100 on UK roads needs to have a think about what they are doing.

Inland Spain on empty dual carriage ways no problem though :D

To the limiter plus a bit a few times for a nanosecond or so before having to back off before tupping the car in front......nonetheless lane discipline in Germany is infinitely better than in the UK.

Bit disappointed a forum where a lot of the cars are limited to 155mph, doesn't have an option for 155mph...

Anyway, it's 155mph for me, on a German autobahn.

Spanish DCW's carry a 120kph limit and some toll ones I think carry a 130kph limit. Going over 100mph on either will land you in big trouble.

If its physical safety, I see in theory why an empty DCW at a ton over here cannot be less safe than an empty DCW over there.

The difference over there is there are mile after mile of empty DCW's that a smooth and quiet opposed to here where there are anything other than smooth straight quiet DCW's.

The main toll routes have only become an issue this year with the policia now upping their games and the on the spot fines in a bid to increase income. But thats another issue!

Speedometer showing 160 on the CLS and 170 on the Evo.
No idea how accurate/innacurate the speedometers are, so dont know the actual speeds.
Have also seen 175+ in a skyline, 911 and Audi RS6. Gallardo snowed alot more on the clock, but think it must have been really far out. (the owners were with me at the time :D)

Less likely to be full of potholes or have ditches on either side.. Must agree you can drive quite rapidly on Spanish dual carriageways. I have a vivid memory of doing about 100mph in a rental Fiesta and a bird flying into the windscreen - scary.

My W210 hit 140mph indicated (I suspect 133 actual) on the A2 between Essen and Hannover this summer. Getting to 120mph was no great problem, but the last 20mph took forever, and numerous attempts had to be curtailed to keep safe, because of all the 4 pot diesels running out of puff in front.

I have touched 142mph in the W124 320 which was not fun, as there was a side wind, and 167mph in a Boxster S (both in Germany). Frankly, above 120mph it isn't particularly pleasant, and you get there no faster because you run out of fuel much more quickly.

A92 in Fife seems ok, A1 out of Edinburgh seems ok. Motorways seem ok when quiet.

Our road network gets a bashing but it really isn't that bad.

When you've spent a few years driving in France and Spain you would disagree.

164(263kph) in my old E500 in Germany. Needle went beyond 260 max.
145 in S600 again in Germany. Barely revving! Didn't get a chance to max it due to traffic and only passing thru a bit of the Autobahn.

Agree! Quite tiring beyond 120 due to level of concentration required, so you only really do it for a quick buzz, not to reach your destination quicker.

I've driven in both these countries

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/general-discussion/94267-i-am-back-wow-2-best-weeks-ever.html

And whilst our roads aren't as good, they are ok. Not that I can tell you this as I only went above 70 twice over here and was caught both times, by a cop and by a camera.

Unlucky!!

My wife hates it when I drive fast on the motor way here and in Spain she would never complain when we used to drive at 120mph inland and when we came back to the UK we were on the motorway for no more than 10mins at 75 and she asked me to slow down!

It was so noisy and bumpy in comparison to what we were used to she thought I was doing way more.

The surfaces are smoother and a bit quieter, but see that new A1M section between Northarellton and Err, to to the south. Its proper good.
