Thought I would relay some recent experiences with this lot.
1. New tyres for W124 E320 Coupe for mate:
We got 4 Goodyear Hydragrips, which are excellent. The fitted and balanced price was competitive, about £300 all in.
I also opted for 'tracking' at £30 -- this was on the phone. Once they 'tracked' it, they said the camber and castor (from memory) needed adjusting too, at another £40. So, to fully track all axis (i.e. x, y and z) for the front wheels only, it was £70 -- I thought and still think this is extortionate. Luckily, the rears were spot on and needed no adjustment. Another place I use (which is excellent) only charges £40 for all wheels and all 3 axis. But they were about £100 more expensive for tyres!
2. New front tyres for Vauxhall Corsa for another mate:
I went in this morning and asked for 195/65 14. They fitted them, I paid, got in and went home. On the way home, the handling feels weird and I can't understand why. Some wobbling on certain roads on certain speeds only. Strange.
At home, get out of car to check tyres: oh dear, the fronts are much bigger than the rears. The reason: well, they should have been 165/65 14. Yes, my mistake but you would have thought they would have realised!!!! They are supposed to be experts after all.
Go back, and they change it without a squeak, but no apology, nothing. Guy who served me first time even mumbled to the guy who was helping me second time that I got what I asked for. To their credit, they also refunded the £21 difference.
