Thought I would relay some recent experiences with this lot.

1. New tyres for W124 E320 Coupe for mate:
We got 4 Goodyear Hydragrips, which are excellent. The fitted and balanced price was competitive, about £300 all in.

I also opted for 'tracking' at £30 -- this was on the phone. Once they 'tracked' it, they said the camber and castor (from memory) needed adjusting too, at another £40. So, to fully track all axis (i.e. x, y and z) for the front wheels only, it was £70 -- I thought and still think this is extortionate. Luckily, the rears were spot on and needed no adjustment. Another place I use (which is excellent) only charges £40 for all wheels and all 3 axis. But they were about £100 more expensive for tyres!

2. New front tyres for Vauxhall Corsa for another mate:
I went in this morning and asked for 195/65 14. They fitted them, I paid, got in and went home. On the way home, the handling feels weird and I can't understand why. Some wobbling on certain roads on certain speeds only. Strange.

At home, get out of car to check tyres: oh dear, the fronts are much bigger than the rears. The reason: well, they should have been 165/65 14. Yes, my mistake but you would have thought they would have realised!!!! They are supposed to be experts after all.

Go back, and they change it without a squeak, but no apology, nothing. Guy who served me first time even mumbled to the guy who was helping me second time that I got what I asked for. To their credit, they also refunded the £21 difference.

Used them quite a lot for a Saab 9000 Carlsson I used to have (ate front tyres like they were going out of fashion). Their prices for tyres were the cheapest around but the tracking cost were the highest - did query this with a fitter and he said they'd invested in the latest laser based system and were trying to recoup the outlay ASAP. Don't know how true that is though!

What is true is they saved me from the plod a couple of years back - I'd stopped at the 4-way lights beside Rainham nick, actually en-route to Elites for another pair of fronts, and had the misfortune for a battenburg to go past slowly with the driver staring at the front tyres. They did a U turn and pulled me over about 100 yds down the A1306 from the lights and told me the fronts were too badly worn, Bit tongue in cheek I said I knew and was going to Elites for an appointment to get two new ones. Thought that would get me off - but they "escorted" to Elites and in to the counter. One of them asked if I had an appointment - guy behind the counter looked at them, looked out the window at the Saab and said "oh yeah - Mr Plucknett, booked in for 2 new Goodyear F1's". Saved my bacon for sure

I've always found them the cheapest for tyres, clearly they make their profit on tracking and alloy wheel sales.

Got my 17" AMGs and Michelin Pilot Sports from them. Arrived by courier well packaged and unmarked.

They cracked my front bumper recently and are kicking up a fuss about fixing it, will keep you posted....

Elite arent the best!

I had the tracking done by them last year, steering wheel was still wonky, went back, they tried again, and its still wonky now! They said its all spot on!

My recomendations in the Elite area:-

Laser tracking - Goodwin tyres - seven kings (they track all the local plod mobiles)

new tyres & Alloys - A&S wheels - Woodford (they promise to beat Elites prices!)

Part worn tyres - B1 tyres - Forest Gate (nearly new tyres from Germany)

ive chosen these guys after years of trying other people and being dissapointed, they have the best prices on the catagories ive put them in. And even after moving 60 miles away, I still make the trip back to get wheels and tyres sorted!

Don't bother with Elite, I've had really bad experience, I also think their labour rates are ridiculously high.

To cut a long story short lower ball joint on my car detached from wishbone after they did the tracking, fortunately was only going round a corner slowly.

Can't prove they touched the bolts, so it's all allegedly.

Destroyed newly painted wing, was a real pain as was selling the car.

I've been using them for years - never once had an issue with them. They know me by name, and I've always had great service (and prices).

Clarky.

Just to agree that Elite aren't the best around...I had a full four wheel alignment done by them, they apparently inserted some bolts (camber stuff) and I paid a total of £150 or so. Except that later when I took the car to the alignment centre in Perivale, as things were still wobbling, they said that the car hadn't been *touched*, and no bolts had been added. Not happy, won't go back.

Very unhelpful staff and were rude...

Bought a set of genune AMG alloys of them and was not impressed with their level of Cus Service/attitude. I therefore, did not get them to fit the alloys/wheels on to my car and took the alloys away and got someone else to fit them and do tracking...

I had a remus exhaust fitted on my last SL from them They did a perfect job inc cutting the rear bumper to accomodate it. Did a great job, no complaints. May be i was lucky!

Due to the "unfriendliness" of the staff I took my Sprinter down to essex to pick up the alloys one w/end from Elite as I did not want them fitting the alloys. They are SO dumb/stupid the guys at the the counter honestly thought that I was gouing to fit the 18" AMGs on to the Sprinter...

Tel: 020 8478 8484

Ive been a customer for 10 odd years, before they were so big. Still Ive not had any complaints.

As an alternative to Elite, if you fancy a nice trip out to the country, try Micheldever Tyres, near Micheldever Station, down the A303.

They only charge £27 for a four wheel laser alignment, and their tyre prices are hard to beat. Autocar mag put me on to them.

But, like I said, a long way from Rainham ...

I have several porsche friends who use them and found them ok.

I tried them once and they were a disaster. All they asked them to do was remove a nail in the tyre. The idiot managed to scratch the surface of the alloy and I saw him do it. When I confronted him about it he called his manager over and denied the whole thing.

I will never use them again
