How long do they sit at the factory?

Does anybody know how long a car will be sat in the factory holding area before it is shipped to its destination.

We got an e-mail on the 30th August saying it had been built and they had a chassis number and then another e-mail yesterday that it will be leaving the factory at 2am today (7th) and getting to our dealership for the 11th and hopefully ready for us to collect on the 12th.

It's the build date to actually leaving the factory that seems a little long to me.

Also how do they get over, is it train or sea?

Many thanks

According to my (MY 2006) car's Datacard, it was registered in the UK five months after being built.

No idea where it actually sat at the time.

But even up to a few months is apparently normal, for whatever reason.

Hopefully MB's logistics have improved over the past five years...

I mean for a factory ordered one, not one they have in stock.
I would have thought they would want to clear the factory holding area soon as poss with the volume of cars they spit out each day

Its likely to be a logistics matter, ie waiting for the next transport to your dealer or dealers in your area. Imagine if they had several cars for your area being completed at one per day over 3 or 4 days. They wouldn't ship each car individually, they would be consolidated into one shipment or trailer load.
