How many C43's and C36 were there built

Regarding C43's i believe there were 405 UK specced cars produced Saloons and Estates, most being manufactured 1998-99, there were 2000 models but are rare, they had tiptronic and updated Gearbox ECU software.

I think im right in saying, there isnt an 'offical' number of C36s as most where converted C280s as far as records go...

all were converted 280`s!, but still registered as c36`s so there should be a figure somwhere

C36 Worlwide 5,221
UK Sales 378

C43 Worlwide 3,085
UK Sales 406

C55 Worldwide 30 (estimated)#
UK Sales None recorded.

It would be interesting to know how many were actually still on the road, but I presume it would be impossible to find out??

I know of at least one RHD W202 C55 (saloon, silver), and I've also seen a silver C55 202 estate in London (but with no way of verifying it's authenticity).

IIRC, they use all of the '55 running gear - so has the stronger diff/prop etc as well.

I'm sure they were also a huge amount of money new (something like £80k?).

Maybe difficult to find data on as they were surely a very special bespoke ordered vehicle (not on UK price lists, much like the 208 CLK55 cabriolet).

Hi,
I do have the figure for the amount of w202 C55's built, it is on my PC at home but IIRC it was in the region of only 27, The source of this info did,nt discriminate between Saloon and Estate, Right or Left hand drive, though other web sites I have seen quoted that no RHD or estate versions of the C55 W202 were built, though this info does seem sketchy.
They would be hard to identify, as they all come up as C43's, when I go to MB dealer with my 43 it comes up as C43/C55 in the top left of their EPC screen, though all C55 202's were based on the 2000 model C43, and all 55 versions had tiptronic as standard.
Peter you quote 406, C43's for the UK, mine was bought ordered and collected from Gibraltar, I wonder if mine is included in that 406, and as mine was bought on the continent, would it be the same spec as a UK ordered car as is,nt there subtle coding changes to Euro spec vehicles?

Just my 2p's worth re:UK RHD C55s.

There have been 2 different silver ones for sale (one with Sovereign Car Sales, and one with Mercedes Crawley) over the past few years.
There has also been a silver one for sale at Buryas Bridge Mercedes in the South West of England, plus one on UK Ebay - I think both of these were discussed on here. Whether or not these cars were either of the aforementioned C55s remains to be proven.
There was also a black one featured in Mercedes Enthusiast a couple of years ago.

So that's 3 for definate. In the advert for the one at Sovereign Car Sales, it was stated that 7 RHD cars were built and they claimed their one had a royal background.

I this doesn't really confirm anything, but thought I may as well write it :D

And IIRC around 140 of the RHD C43's were Estates - so around 260 saloons.

Where can I get worldwide production numbers per year for the C43? I think it was made from 1998 to 2000, or was it from 1997 to 1999?

Sorry,i don't know.

There's a maroon C43 estate (W202) near me, it seems to be used as a daily driver and general load lugger.

Driver must have money to burn at todays fuel prices ! Or just enjoys driving it . :thumb: Bit like me with my S203 C55. I jump in it and drive it just for the heck of it .
