I've just bought a new boot lid for the 124 and was wondering how much I should expect to pay to get it sprayed up. I'll be getting the rest of the car repainted at some point soon so blending it in isn't top of the priorities, just having a hole free boot will be a bonus.

Any ideas of what I can expect to pay would be appreciated so thanks in advance.

I would put some tape over the existing hole and live with it.

Get the new lid fitted and sprayed when you do the rest of the car , much more chance of it matching then.

It could be very cheap if you have a go yourself, is not that hard in smaller area's and even if you get it wrong you can still have another go....whats to lose ?

That might be the best way forward (especially as the car isn't even back on the road yet so no shame in a bit of duck tape around the number plate!) Only problem is finding somewhere to store the new lid, the new rear quarter panel is taking up the last bit of space in the garage.

As for matching the colour I was thinking that if I did get the boot done first I would have enough paint mixed for the whole job in order to get it to match (I don't know much about paint shelf life so this may not be feasible)

That won't be happening, I don't mind the under bonnet greasy stuff (I currently have the head off to fix the obligatory M104 oil leak) but I'll leave bodywork to someone with a more artistic bent (and an oil free compressor!)

Thanks for the input though.

Can you sling the lid from the rafters with some rope / washing line ?

I've done this with spare bumpers in the past.

Less chance of it getting knocked or dented too :thumb:

Great minds think alike; the last remaining hanging space is taken up by the aforementioned quarter panel. eBay has a lot to answer for!

My local repair specialists charge £350 + vat per panel

Had the lower half of the doors and the rear arches done for £650 at a lesser repair place however would not use them again.

You gets wot you pays for !!

I had a new bootlid sprayed last year cost £168

Go to an insurance repair specialist it will be a lot. You need to find your local good back street paint shop.....

Economic paint jobs

There is a great guy in my area who does all the scuffs and scrapes for a local car supermarket, he would probably charge £100.
Try asking your nearest car supermarket who they send their bodywork to?
