Does anyone have a rough idea how much the dealers would charge for an auxiliary air device/air slide valve for a 2.6 190e?

Basically i need to know if the guaranteed second hand unit im being offered is good value or not. They want £40+VAT for the second hand one.

I was going to check today but clean forgot as its been hectic at work

Cheers,
Stu

Is this the idle control valve? If so I think they are about £100 new.

If you are changing it due to stalling when the revs fall to idle then it may not be the valve. Try adjusting the idle when the valve is parked by revving th engine over 3k with the temp sensor disconnected. If the idle is statically set too low the valve can't compensate.

I'm assuming you have electronic fuel injection.

Another fault is for the wiring to lose the 12v feed to the valve.

Hello mate,

My car has K jet fuel injection.

The problem started when i cleaned out the air flow meter to try and cure a lumpy tick-over. It seemed to work fine afterwards for a day. then the next morning after the car had warmed up it just wouldn't tick-over at all, just kept stalling. So i had to left foot brake whilst feathering the gas with my right foot.

I got home and checked everything i could and as soon as i unplugged the power to the valve, the car ran fine. And it cuts out as soon as i plug it back in:(

I did check the valve with a power supply and it does Seem to open and close OK:confused:  I just thought it had to be the valve as it cuts out as soon as its plugged in:confused:

If the power to the valve is having an effect then it probably isn't the valve as it sounds like that is operating.

Try metering the power to the valve, I suspect it's being pulled closed with some voltage.

I wonder if the ECU thinks the engine is on over-run so closes the valve?

Aha!!! I did notice that the throttle cut off switch didnt seem to be doing anything when i tested that!!!!!!! To test it i reved the engine up at the throttle linkage and pressed the swith, that normaly causes the engine to want to stall, but it did nothing this time?? Could that cause the valve to play up?

Stu

That's how it knows the throttle is at closed position/idle.

The ECU probably pulls the valve closed at anything above idle. I think you have your answer.

Right, il get one tomorrow and see/hope that it cures the problem.

Its just strange it did it started playing up the day after id cleaned the air flow meter out!!

Many thanks for your help Dieselman:cool:

I replaced the thrust cutoff switch but if anything, it seems worse:confused: Hunting wildly until it finaly cuts out:mad:

I did notice today that the AFM plate seems to be catching a little at the top!! I can feel it scrape a little when i press it down. Would this alone cause the problems im having?

Cheers,
Stu

Can anybody tell me if the AFM plate catching would cause the problems im having???????????????????????? And how do i go about stopping it catching?
