Hi guys!

I wonder how often you do basic servicing to your Mercs?

Do you wait the full 12k miles or 12 months - or do you do it more often???

What parts do you buy? - Geniune Merc, OE or cheapie parts ???

Service to schedule and only use Mercedes parts.

Drop the Oil every 3000, full service every 6K and use parts supplied by yourselves as we have an account with you. :)

Isn't oil every 3k a bit excessive? Mine is done when I dictator on dash orders me to the garage.

Serviced when the helpful computer orders me to.

Mix of genuine MB parts and others. MB for what I consider to be "mechanically important (e.g. oil filters), and pattern parts for things like cabin filters.

Look forward to getting to my milestone 100 posts to get discount! (Nearly there - just need to post some twaddle in the general chat section:))

By the sounds of it, you don't need 100 posts to get the discount.;)

Every 3k for an oil change does seem quite excessive. Are you using a "cheap" alternative oil and therefore changing regularly? What sort of driving are you doing (long runs or shopping basket)? Are you hoping to extend the life of your engine by doing such frequent oil changes?

Always done it with all my cars which means the MB gets the oil changed twice a year, same as the Audi and the Volvo 4 times a year.

I've seen too many high end cars suffer engine failures because of incompatible oils or oils that have degraded well before they are supposed to causing premature wear and blockages of oil galleries. Some of the oil analysis of premium oils in prestige cars would shock you, For me £10 of oil and £2 for a filter is the best £12 insurance you can get. For all my cars that only equates to £120 per year + my time and I've never had an engine problem on a car in 30 years of driving.

No I only use top spec oil and filters anything else is just false economy, Volvo does all the motorway work, MB and Audi all the town work but my oil change regime is the same for either. I certainly believe it prolongs the life of engines and gives better fuel consumption.

As the old girl's getting on a bit (just hit 160k), I do mine on a yearly basis and usually get the bits from ECP.

When Edna tells me she wants one and always use proper parts and quality oil. Used MB until this last time when she went to a local indie specialist.

Whereas it's £60-ish a pop for the rest of us

At 3k intervals, I'd have to do 6+ changes a year on the E-class alone.

Not sure about £60 ish fully syn is only £25ish + Vat retail + Filter? Ok if you don't do it yourself then £60 ish unless you use Kwik Fit or another national offering cheap oil changes.

I do 10 changes a year on all 4 cars but as you correctly point out have the benefit of trade prices and facilities to work in so at 20 mins a go its no big drama and I just consider it preventative maintenance. Excessive to some, peace of mind to me :thumb:

I paid £35 for oil + Filter change at National Tyres a short while ago for the Volvo. Castrol Magnatec 5W30 Full Synthetic oil was used.

Dropped it off, cab to a meeting. Lift back, job done, for less than the oil would have cost for me to buy.

Both SL and Vito are serviced according to M-B schedule, using M-B parts. I normally supply the oil myself (bought from Costco), which cuts the cost significantly.

£30 (25+vat) for 6.5l of synthetic, (8 for the SL)? Not anywhere I can shop, that's for certain!

Assuming a full 25% discount from ECP, I'm looking at the following -
E320 - 5l (£34) + 2x1l(£9.50 each) + filter (£5). £45 after discount
SL - 2x5l (£68) + filter (£8). £60 after discount.

Last time I got Mobil 1 for the SL at Costco it was in 4L containers (perfect) and £24 each. Think it's 5L for £28 now.

Look at Davids post above £35 all in. and why buy oil from ECP (No Offence) buy it direct from an oil supplier, ECP are fantastic for parts but not competitive on oil, same goes for the rest of the suppliers GFS, Pages etc. The oil supply market is cut throat, best deal we get believe it or not is direct from Audi :dk: they beat everyone else by a mile so might be worth a try?
