How paranoid should I be

I had some trouble earlier with my PC using the other forum where my mouse would jump around the screen and move the page up and down. I tried closing the tab (using firefox 3.0.10) and re-openning the tab using my favourites but it would open in a new window.

Normally the PC doing a free for all is a sign of a key stroke hacker, but I've scanned the PC for viruses and malware (using AVG free edition and ad-aware free edition) and only 3 tracking cookies were found. Am I being silly or should I have cause for concern (I'll pick this thread up on the work PC tomorrow)

I have had this before on a laptop. It died the next day with a horrendus virus.

try malwarebytes - full scan, after updating.

Will do, using the works PC now only to check online banking as its got all this firewall stuff that I know precious little about. I updated the virus scanner and it found lots of spyware and tracking cookies so moved them, but will use wlegs suggestion when I next get the chance. We did a course on fruad awareness and "out of control" PCs was something that came up hence the title of my post.
