My car that I've had from new - I opted not to have the stop/start/keyless entry etc option. The car is a gle/2016 car

How easy would it be for a brainless moron to steal my car and how long would it take approxiamelt. (I'm talking about the
average chance d head and not those that make a living out of stealing cars)

I don't feel a steering lock is needed as in my view, anyone with the ability to steal my type of car would be able to do away with a half decent
aftermarket lock etc, relatively quickly.

Yes, I'm just curious.

(To make my car more secure, I never leave anything on display not even empty bags/jackets/tops etc and always try and park in a place where I believe it is safer than the rest of areas near it)

PS. I guess what I'm asking is that my car had the 'keyless opition' and I decided not to go for it - can it still be driven away without a key
by the type of criminal moron/s that I'm referring to?

Not that easy to drive off in a mercedes without a key unless you have some computer aided technology

My friend had a newish 340i BMW without keyless entry.
He watched it being driven off his driveway at 3am one morning.
He'd only had it three months!
If they want it - they will have it!

If they want a non-keyless entry vehicle then the keys are only a break-in or a mugging away.

Best thing is to make it as awkward as possible , my 440 is close to the garage with at least two cars in front of it but i take a different approach with the Porker , its a bit of a faff in the morning fitting the wheels before work but good luck in getting that away.

Thank you as that is what I wanted to know.

Every new merc I've had ie new to me or brand new, I've always worried a bit about it being stolen the first few months.

I'm not worried now about the gle being stolen and if and when we go away overnight/s or weeks, we take both keys with us.

Just to be a bit more clear, I was asking about my car, any car that has the option of keyless start/etc, whether this could be stolen as easily by criminal gangs using tech devices as I opted out of the keyless system ie my car still has most of the keyless brains in the car..

Someone up the road they have an old bently, couple of Audis inc a RS 5 and big double gates which they don't close. They rarely drive the RS car but it is always boxed in by the other cars.

My car is only I target to the opportunist and I guess if I left the keys in by mistake. When I worked, I did used to leave the car running on the drive in the cold/frosty weather, but car is set back from the pavement very quiet road and we have metal gates that are often closed.

Yes, easily stolen, they don't need the physical key in their hand.
Two scanners are used, one through your house window, the other next to your car.
My friends keys were inside his locked house.
No muggings or threats.
And it's a button start anyway once the doors 'magically' open!

Sorry for being very thick as always. My car, I opted out of the 'keyless' system - can it still be stolen in the manner you have described, as I thought it was only applicable to 'keyless cars' - mine is key operated. Thanks.

Yes. All the key does is give you a button to press, instead of touching the door handle with the keyless fob in your pocket.
Thrives can bypass this.

Surely you don't have a hole to put your key in?

Mines inaccessible one side (8 feet high wall), has the A Class in front of it. No keyless entry or start. A Milenco steering lock fitted and self activating dash cam as a deterrent. And if they nicked it, its only worth about four grand with the wind behind it.....which is probably the reason I don't worry about it! I must admit that its one of the joys of owning older cars.....I just don't worry about it (as much!!)......When I owned newer cars....and ran brand new company cars and demos, I used to be constantly worrying about it, where it was parked etc, especially when we were out especially at night....even when I didn't actually own it!!
Just to reassure you newer car owners.....no matter what you do if a pro wants it he will have it.....next to nothing you can do about that!!!!.....luckily lots are just opportunists amateurs ....

key operated via the hole in the car
So you have to physically put a key into a ignition barrel. Turn the key to start the car, then no, they can't steal your car without having the actual key in their hands.

Does that mean no cars were ever stolen before we went to keyless?

We’re quite lucky because we live in a little cul-de-sac where we’ve all got our own spaces and no-through access for anybody but us.

We’ve been there 8 years and so far nobody’s vehicles have been messed with.

The guy 2 houses along has a Panagale that he keeps on his path!!

Easily remedied by double clicking the fob to turn off keyless and putting the key in a faraday pouch or tin.

The bad press keyless gets is ridiculous when the above couple of actions render keyless theft nearly impossible.
Add in an Autowatch Ghost and the car would need to be trailered away. It won't be moving otherwise.
But those who dislike keyless don't or won't understand that.

The exmaple I gave a few doors from us, ie the "boxed in RS 5" - the parasite/crooks would have to move the other cars, and I'm guess the owner/s are being siseible with their key

Btw - please do take all of your keys when you are away for the night or more - this will stop the insult to injury if your home is every broken into and then they take your stuff in your car - then you have a claim for your home/contents/rpeair s as well as your car - a no brainer.

As a addition to the above and to be super safe , take your keys or put them in a safe and leave a "dummy" key in an obvious spot for them to find as the scum will destroy the house looking for the keys if they cant find them.
