How the hell did this happen?

So I have been slowly fixing things on the SL as I have had time and noticed! The bonnet has always fouled the rear plastic tray at the right hand side rear. Finally worked out why, the hinge is bent! It’s a solid piece of metal so how did that happen?

Pure guesswork from me. It looks like somebody? Moved the car with bonnet in it full vertical position and snagged something with the bonnet. Very easy to do. I have seen the same with roof mount cycle racks and country park height restrictions, resulting in huge damage to car, bike, rack and height restrictor.

Or, Mechanic laves tools, spark plugs and the like here and then closes bonnet...
