Hi,

Is it possible to make my wing mirrors auto fold I have a 2002 S Class w220
There is no option for it in the on board computer but I can press the button on the door to manually fold.

Thanks
Adam.

Hi Adam,
I will stand back if other advice comes along but it may simply be that the manual fold exists. If I recall correctly my CLK had manual fold but not auto fold which I learnt was an option but not fitted. You are doing the right thing in scrolling through the computer, I might suggest giving it several goes before giving up as to those not used to Mercedes style of storing these things can sometimes take a bit of working out.

Do you have a handbook?

Good luck.

If it is possible then it may need to be enabled through Star (MB computer) :)

I think you can have it programmed on STAR to do it automatically but on a 12 year old related use may take its toll on the loom in the mirror.

I only use mine when I think it's necessary as one side can be a bit reluctant to fold from time to time.

It's a programmable option on my 2003 w220 to fold when the car is locked but I turned it off, best do do it manually when needed.

I looked into this many years ago and it was not possible on the 2002 model.

Thanks everyone, I have had a good look through the menu and the hand book but was starting to think it was perhaps an optional extra I didn't have.
I live on quite a narrow street with pretty busy traffic and have no drive so do fold them in quite often.

Thanks
Adam.

A hidden extra with auto folding mirrors is that you can see whether the car is locked from a distance...

I think I searched in vain for this feature in the dash menus, and the mechanic enabled it on star.

I think the wiring in the mirrors does eventually wear out if this feature is enabled (I had mirror indicator malfunction but it seems to have cured itself now), but the mirrors don't get hit by passing cars when parked, and I can see from a distance that the car is locked, both of which are of value.

It's a standard feature to facelift cars but your pre facelift car does not have the facility to enable this.
I'm sure it can probably be retrofitted.
For example the early W209 CLK doesn't have the function but it can be added by fitting a later SAM unit from a pre-facelift car and then having the coding done on star.

I have it on my 2004 CLK and as posted above is a good sign that the car is locked without having to get too close.

Tony.
