Hello my name is Thomas from Sweden, and I need to change the timing chain on my Mercedes Benz E430 W210 Y:1998

Do I really need to tear down the engine, or is there a link on the new chain to the old one and then turn around everything until the new one is fully on?

Have asked around at the Swedish clubben but get no good answer, so now I turn to the ones I have got good help from before.

Hope someone can help me and thanks in advance

Sorry for my bad English.
Kindly regards

I can see your logic, but unfortunately your idea is a non starter, the chain is obviously under tension, and when you release the tension cogs will turn rendering the engine timing out.You need full access to the crank and cam shaft gears and tensioners to do the job.

Good luck, take your time and be precise, remove spark plugs to relieve compression, turn engine over manually a good few times and constantly check timing marks.
