the update MY01 should make it 50m scale... mine does

I had my COMAND system replaced under warranty last year with a brand new one - so I guess it must have the latest software, and it only goes to 100m scale. - ?

SilverSaloon,

did you use the cd update? I have a MY 2002 comand which was the latest, and 100m scale?

N

I didn't use the MY01 update CD- but I am confused, when was the MY01 update CD released ? (2001 ?) - my new COMAND was actually replaced this year (not last) in Jan 2004 - so I just assumed it would have the latest software version in it.

Not always. They can be on a shelf for a long time.

I have W208 cabriolet jan 2002 , followed instructions and downloaded MY01 disc for command (www.geocities.com/command12000). Installed after 30mins delay or so for software to upload. Have MBenz logo, DX sign, can send and receive SMS messages , can see speed indicator in service menu and have latest TMC enabled UK 2004 Navtech disc. STILL 100m mapping - any ideas?
Does every disc carry code for 50m or only some discs?

Just a thought but I am sure 50m mapping is only available on 203/209 / 230 comands so if you have a comand with a 208 (or 210 or 163) part number then I am 99% sure 100m is all you're going to get.

the same MY01 update disks does different things to the later comands - like add 50 m mapping.

I have already the features that Richard (rdcw) has, but just want 50m for London. I am curious that Miro has seen them? I guess maybe not on W208s?

You can flash your COMAND again and see if that makes any difference. The post on how to do that is in this forum, in this section.

I suspect Miro has only seen 50m on his own C class Comand (W203), But I am sure he wuill clarify.

Re applying the update will make no difference to your 208 Comand

I will check the comands again on some quiet weekend. I have several on hand.

Thankyou Steve and Miro - I guess I hadn't fully appreciated the detail differences between command models - I had thought they all were alike in terms of funtionality other than the obvious difference between CD and DVD models. Does anyone have a resource which would list the differences between command models - or is that a bit too nerdy...?

It depends on which CPU is affixed to the processor board. It doesnt vary with car model it varies with the age of the computer board. Even then I'm not so sure it varies with age but rather batch number.

I dont wish any disrespect to Miro ... but I am quite sure (but happy to proven wrong) that it doesnt matter whether your 208 (or 210 or 163) comand is 3 years old or brand new - it will not have 50m map scaling. The C class comands have I believe different architecture hence the improved funcionality. Old C class comands do not have 50 m scaling but MY01 update disk adds the feature (amongst other things) .

My Comand is a 210 (installed in a 208) and doesn't have 50m scaling, but it does (as far as I am aware) have the latest firmware (intelligent speller, SMS etc).

Is the 50m scaling of any real value? When I scale down even to 100m the actual level of map detail (DX discs) doesn't seem to increase. I am not sure if there is any actual benefit from the 50m scale. I tend to leave my system on a scale that gives me a better perspective of where I am (lost, usually).

Perhaps those with 50m scale think differently?

Like I said, I will test my stock units some time and see what I get. I am wrong as often as I am correct. Im not going to invest any emotional ballast into something that is probably mistaken on my part.
