I was involved in running a large dog agility show at Newbury showground this weekend. While setting up we noticed one of the trees looked a bit scorched, and there was an area of fresh turf around it. Looking closer, there were small pieces of broken glass and other debris to be seen.

Asking the groundsman, he said that someone giving joyrides to members of the public at a "Ferrari Fun Day" a couple of weeks ago had managed to hit the tree. The driver and young passenger got out unharmed before the car went up in flames and was totally destroyed

Not a great advert for a F430 (?) if it bursts into flames on impact

Anyone see the article on the everyday Ferrari in Classic and sports car?? (Aug2009) I'm nearly tempted with a 328...However, if they have a habbit of bursting into flames on impact, I begin to wonder if this is a wise move or even worth consideration. Are they that delicate? :dk: I know they like lots of TLC in general, but then again I don't know a whole bunch about Ferrari period, other than what you see going on in F1.

Thoughts?

It was apparently a 360 Spider.

I heard it spun and hit the tree backwards ... rupturing the fuel tank.

Presumably being shunted from behind could have the same result :dk:

I read the very same article. I thought a 456 for a bit more money was the more tempting option.

A 911 (964), SL (129 0r 107) also comes into consideration for classic wheels.

I bet it wasn't insured for what it was doing at the time. Oh dear........

Yeah you could have a point there with the 456, though I like the open top option of the 328GTS. I also agree with the SL129 is worth consideration. As for Porsche, I had ownership of a few back in the late 80's and early 90's I think I got them out of my system now, nice cars though they are, just to hard a ride for me these days. :)

my insurance doesn't cover racing or being used as a taxi but presuming the ferrari's was the same what clause would it contravene?

unless of course he was charging people or indeed the fact that spinning the car might indicate "racing"

....rushes off to check policy... but then realises there might be limited demand for fun day in my heap of carp.

I think money was being charged for the rides (probably going to charity, but not sure that would make any difference).
