How to import a Google maps route to COMAND

Yes, it does work with gpx files exported from BaseCamp, or saved from MapSource :thumb:

Thanks for the reply, the download link doesn't seem to work anymore, perhaps because the post is a little old.

Will this work with previous routes I've done Malcolm

Yes. If you have gpx files produced by previous versions of the program, they will still work in the Comand. If you have gpx files previously downloaded from GPS Visualizer, they can still be converted by this new version of the program.

If you have kml files from a previous version of Google Maps, those won't work with the new version of the program. Simply download the kml files from Google Maps again and all will be well!

If you miss a point

Hello Malbry,

Thank you for the last version, I'll test it ASAP.

I used (some months ago) a KML from google transformed by your program.

I would like to know if the following behavior is normal :

If you miss a point of your route, the system wants absolutly pass by this missing point and ask you for u-turn.
Is it possible that Command forget the missing point and go to the next point ?

I don't say that is due to your program but certainly to google KLM.

If you have a solution, it' would be nice...:o:o:o

Hi Missel,

Yes, I've seen this behaviour too. I think it's because when Comand imports the Google Maps route, it tries to match the Google Maps trackpoints (latitude, longitude) to its own maps database. In most cases, this works fine. In rare cases there is a mismatch and you get the 'make a u-turn' request. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do in my program to improve this.

While this can be occasionally irritating, if I know I'm following the right route I just wait a few seconds and the Comand corrects itself.

Hope this helps.

Malcolm

KML to gpx doesn't work

Hello Malbry

Excuse me to disturbe you with that.
But If you could have a look on my problem.

After done several test and didn't find a solution, my last KML doesn't work in Mercedes comand GPX.

May be I use My Maps in the wrong way :dk::cool:

Details
Used Routes107 version
Make my KML with the last version of Google My Maps
Your program works very weel (only in Single GPX File)
But the GPX isn't read in the Mercedes comand.
I look forward and compare a GPX who worked with the new one.
I saw some differences in the header of the file and test a copy of the header from the old gpx file to the new one =NOK.

I have attached a zip files (7zip) which contains :
The A file is the old one who is OK
The B is the KML of the new one
The C is the gpx transformed by Routes107 = NOK

Sorry for my poor English :eek:

Good Easter week end.

Find an alternative solution.

Finaly I found an alternative solution :
I saved my KML in KMZ in Google My Maps
I import the KMZ in Basecamp (Garmin soft)
I export the basecamp data to GPX file
I use Route106 to transform the GPX file for Mercedes Comand = :bannana::bannana:
In attach the gpx from the route106.

Hope this help you to find why (my) KML to the Routes program doesn't work

Hello,
I made a mistake, in my text. I used route105 to transform the gpx file for Mercedes Comand = :bannana::bannana:

Hi Missel,

I've got the files thanks. I'll take a look and see what's happening.

Hi again Missel,

I looked at your files. I think the problem is that my program was writing the gpx file using your local (European) number format with comma as the decimal point (example: xx,xxx) instead of a period as the decimal point (example: xx.xxx). I have made a change to the program, please can you try converting your kml file using version 1.08 from here:

http://www.freepoc.org/download/Routes108.zip

Please let me know if this fixes the problem.

Thanks & regards,
Malcolm

Test route108

Hello Malbry,

Thank you for your involment. I'll do the test ASAP.

Missel

Routes108 is working also for France

Hello Malbry,

Just tested = OK.

Thank you very much.

Just for your information, for my last trip I used it (kmz-gpx-routes105) and it was very very helpfull (460 Kms -50% on little road). So cool.

Hello Malbry,

First of all, thanks a lot for your conversion program. I am using Routes109 and was able to ride a route > 160 kilometers. But I created another route in Basecamp and noticed a hangup after a routepoint which is at km. 50,3. Till that point, the program comes to a normal end, but when I create the next routepoint a few kilometers further on, the program seems to hang and I have to stop it manually. It is specific for this route, another, longer route, just works fine.

I created two files which I exported from Basecamp: Export-1.gpx is OK, Export-2.gpx is the one that gives the problem.

Could you please have a look? I have attached the corresponding files as zipped files.

Thanks a lot in advance and best regards,
Jac

Hi Jac,

I've replied by email. Your Basecamp gpx file had 35 via points which exceeded my program's internal limit of 30 via points. I've sent you a modified version with the limit increased to 50, which works when I run it against your file. Hope this helps.

Malcolm
