How to install an IPOD dock into a MOST based COMAND system

Hmm interesting. I'm still waiting to do this - I see the price of the kit is okay, but to get the dealer to actually do it means the overall cost is about 400 - 500 pounds. Not sure I want to pay that yet.

You could buy the bits and do it yourself! then just have the dealer code it for you ~ 15 minutes labour.

This was a £345 option on the B Class which I declined. I still want it so have I made the wrong decision?

I had it thrown in for free:) I nailed them down on the deal then said 'If you install the IPOD connection for free, I'll sign now. They agreed. If you have ordered the car recently it might not be too late to have it added to the order.

Tempting - how would it affect the warranty ? Is it easy ?

Too late Alfie I got the car delivered yesterday :( My wife did try to persuade them but we already got a good discount so they weren't going to budge any more.

Do you have the part number of the kit which contains everything I need?

Cheers,
Steve

does anyone know if these are the same bits that I would need for a w211 e class with comand (widescreen) so I can have ipod connectivity too?

Thanks

you can fit the interface kit yourselves and you should be able to buy the kit over the counter at the dealership, coding bit at the end is not always needed as some cars are already set from the factory, you just need to have the phone buttons enabled, then it will work,I fit 2 -3 kits a week at work and its never taken me more than 45 minutes to do the whole kit, instructions are very staright forward, you need to remove the command unit, and fit an adapter harness between the command connector harness, you then have a small interface box that you hide under the passenger side dash, the drill a large hole in the side of the glove box for the ipod plug to come through, thats pretty much it,connect your ipod and if it show the MB sign on it,then you shouldn't need to code it.
there is a small mod you have to do on the command harness for the optical lead,if you pm me I will tell you how it done

Found an interesting link which shows how to install a factory IPOD docking connector into a MOST based system. This is all those facelifted W203's, new A, B and ML!

http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Mercedes-Benz/1109664000000_1129791600000_T-82-60-438/381.html

Should be very straight forward except for the cluster coding at the end!

Alfie,

Thanks for this - I'm about to take the plunge. Do you know if a specific set of instructions can be found for the E Class (211 MOST system).

Thanks,
J.

I dont know of any specific to the W211 I'm afraid. Maybe someone with an upto date WIS can supply them????

It would be great if someone could lift the S/W211 instructions.

Dealer says it needs part of the kit run to the back of the car - hence 2.5 x £100 per hour labour.

Would be nice to know the extent of the disassembly and then maybe do a DIY (£130 is worth it, £380 is not!).

Only on facelifted w203's ? so i gather it wont work on a 02 c class then ??

Well I have the kit, and I can confirm one cable is very long - which might indicate the back of the car thing is true.

If someone has the instructions I'll have a go......

Edit: I think the control unit goes to the back.

I looked at the Eclass kit and left it when I swa the cable length - I haven't been able to find the Eclass instructions either.....

I bought a MB branded Ipod (30gb nano) today from my dealer.
£189 total - very good i think (only 1500 worldwide it seems so limited edition!)

Very swish with sublte MB brand on the back!

:D
