In a car with a key, you can turn power on and off by twisting the key to zero position or taking key out of ignition.

With keyless go, press once to power up.... but how to power off?
I've pressed the button again, and it tries to start the car (looking for a foot on the brake), pressing yet again doesn't kill the power, nor does press and hold.
The instrumentation lights are still on.

Currently I just open the door and close it again, but surely there has to be a more obvious and better way?

It's push start and push again to stop......you have a problem!

Wish I could be of more help, but that's as far as my knowledge on the subject takes me

On my W213, there is a button where the gear lever normally is on the centre console next to the driver that you press to turn everything off...........

He has a W205 C Class though, it's the one button for start and stop.

From the owner's handbook..

If Start/Stop button has not yet been pressed, this corresponds to the key being removed from the ignition.
To switch on the power supply: press Start/Stop button once.
The power supply is switched on. You can now activate the windscreen wipers, for example.
The power supply is switched off again if:
  • the driver's door is opened and
  • you press Start/Stop button twice when in this position
To switch on the ignition: press Start/Stop button twice.
The ignition is switched on.
The ignition is switched off again if:
  • you do not start the engine from this position within 15 minutes
  • you press Start/Stop button twice when in this position

Reading that confuses me! Haha! But in essence, press the start/stop button twice?

That's how I read it. From any of the On states press twice to shut down.

I've never needed just to turn the power on without starting the engine, so it's simple for me. Push once to start the car and once to stop lol

All in the above post #5 is done without one's foot on the brake pedal.

What I think it is saying is when the power is on, press twice to switch off power which is logically what I would expect.

On > ignition primed (but engine not fired because foot not on brake) > power off

Which doesn't seem to work as mentioned in my original post.
Can somebody else confirm with their car?

It's been 14 hours, have you turned it off yet?

Opening the door does the trick, otherwise power remains on.
