Car
2000 SL500, 2005 Touareg 5.0 V10 diesel
Even though I've only had it for about 15 months I'm thinking of putting mine up for sale and wondered what level of demand there was at present.

My SL500 is one of the good ones:
W reg (2000)
70k miles
Dark metallic blue/grey interior
Pano roof (corrosion free)
Rear seats
Remote boot open, folding mirrors, sat nav etc etc
Totally unmodified
FSH, mainly MB but last (major) service by George Fraser a couple of months ago when it got new plugs etc etc + 2 new front tyres
Soft top immaculate with new plastic windows last summer (after I bought it)
Paintwork in excellent condition - front of car had a blow over earlier this year.

So I paid about £12,500 for it last year, have spent loads on it since and now I've had a year's use of it I'm getting itchy feet and have the Porsche bug so am thinking of selling.........
Any interest here in a very very good late model SL500 before I stick it on P'heads/Autotrader?
I'd like to think I'd get what I paid for it, but would be interested to get thoughts on what its worth.......

Nick

A picture would be nice. Right car perhaps the wrong time of year? Difference might be you had some form of warranty with that sale? depending on who you bought it from.

Its a single din head unit.
I don't know if it was an option or standard on the 500 that year, but it is factory fit.
Its got a 6 cd changer in the boot as well.

Nick, where did you get your paintwork done, if you don't mind me asking.

Cracking motor.

Cheers

if u want to sell the pano roof i would be interested!

As mentioned, you'd probably get a better price selling in the spring. Looks a very nice car though.

I think 129 prices are still falling and as grober said - wrong time of year. I guess the economic situation doesn't help either. I'm sure there will come a time when the prices bottom out and then start to rise as the 129 affirms itself as classic status.

Personal opinion - I think you'd be lucky to get back what you paid for it unless you are prepared to wait for the right buyer.

6+ months is a long time to wait when one is drooling over a porsche

That picture looks like it was taken at Alex Creasys offices in Battersea. If so, what'll he offer for you as part-x for a porsche? You mght be surprised at what he comes back with and he's got a lovely 911 C4 at the moment looking for a home. :thumb:

When I ws on the hunt for my SL, I found that there were quite a few cheaper SL500's but none of them were particularly nice with chequered history's or they were poorly looked after examples.

If I wanted a 500 post 99 with a panoramic roof and similar miles as yours then 12k definately seemed the right sort of ballpark. Sayng that, the decent ones were nearly always snapped up by specialist dealers in the know so there might be a bit of a dealer premium in that price. (not much though)

Look, this is even in your parking spot ...

Seriously, speak to Alex, half his trade is through sourcing cars for customers as he has all the right contacts and he told me he can shift nice SL's all day long.

I suspect once you've worked out the figures, he'll strike up a pretty good deal on sourcing you your 996 and taking your SL in exchange.

Cheers Spike, I will give him a call.
I have spent a few days trawling PH and all the usual spots for a 996tt but perhaps he can find me something.

Get the 'Boss' to do a video you will get maybe more than your asking price :)

Lovely looking car, my dad was after a 996 C4s and or a SL55 he ended up witha SL500 (with full AMG 55 kits etc) great weekend car. Still like the look of the porsche (wide body is cool) but I think it will 'want' to be driven and the Merc suits him more.

Boss/d w124 (which one are you??) Brilliant. Come and do one for me, I live round the corner from you!!!
