Aaah, brings back memories from last years GTG-holiday at Steve's place :)
Yes, except the swearing was 100% English this time ;)

Looking good Nick...next uo: steering wheel & IC upgrade...go CANBUS.
Yep, I already have the IC, can you get me a price for the a w208/w210 facelift steering wheel in black please? :D
How difficult is the wiring, is it just a harness that needs to be plugged in or does it require a lot of splicing?

Any close ups of that join?
Yep, here is a pic. I am going to take the two facia panels out, superglue them together and re-fit them I think, then they won't move independently ;)

well, lots of cars use canbus but what's important here is how they use it :) . My comand doesn't have any of the canbus features, and isn't connected to any canbus wires, just the normal ISO plugs. My car and your car have some of the canbus features, the good news is that the features from the w208 and w210 facelift models can be added :) . This will require me to swap the comand for a 208* or 210* model rather than the 163* I have.

I have to point it out to people, no-one ever spots it unless I tell them :)

Thanks for the info Nick :)

Out of interest, what does the local stealership make of COMAND in a W202? ;) Have they commented on it at all?

One of the parts guys came out and played with it for 5 mins in the stealership carpark on Saturday afternoon :) . He said "erm, have you got bose, this sounds a bit boomier than normal?" heh, how many badges and he still had to ask?
I need to move a pin in the diagnostic port so next time they service my car they will see I have comand (could send it updates etc if neccessary) :)

Re; speed pulse. I did exactly the same (or, didn't ;) ), and get the same results, but I don't have the auto-volume thingy - is yours working now?
I found out today...yes it is! I accelerated quite hard off a motorway roundabout onto a dual carriageway, from say 20mph to 70mph and then had to turn the stereo down a bit ;) . I never noticed it before because it's obviously quite subtle, but the rapid change of speed made it noticeable. Guess it works after all :)

auto volume on comand can be set in (I think) 5 different levels...once you have that wire in your stardiagnose socket changed...

greetingz,

Great :) ... I'll have do try that and see if my comand's set to an even subtler level :p .

"I was testing my stereo's speed-sensitive volume control...your honour!" ;)

Pictures missing

As I am eagerly researching the different navigation choices, I read this HOW TO with great interest.

It seems there is a problem with missing pictures - perhaps to spare the faint-hearted the exposed views of a dismantled interior? ;)

no, they are hosted on the MBCLUB forum server, during the upgrades recently the folder or service has been canned. The pics total about 2MB and I don't have room on my own webserver to host them.

EDIT:
I just edited both this thread and the one in the HOWTO section, so all 35 pics are now working :)

I am fitting command to my CLK55 MY2001 facelift model. Do I need to make the Diagnostic Connection as described on this page ?

That was done on my last car, not on my current yet. It's not strictly neccessary but it's a nice finishing touch when the stealership plug their computer into the car and it flashes up with the comand stuff as well :)

Hi Shude,
Just stumbled across this thread.

You are certainly a very talented person. I am very, very impressed.

One day I will get my son to read this thread and then ask him to install my Linguatronic.

Well done,
John

Thanks! So, without the diagnostic connection the dealer will still be able connect with STAR and tell D2B that command is present?

Also, am I correct in assuming that my car is CANBUS and therefore do not need to connect speed pulse or reversing signal?

Er, dunno about that :) . It might go to the instrument cluster I suppose, prolly better off doing the diagnostic port anyway, IIRC it's a 5 minute job, I could probably write a HOWTO with pics if needed.

My car is also CANBUS, all cars from 1995ish onwards have some level of CANBUS in them, the difference between mine and yours is that the instrument cluster/steering wheel controls are also on CANBUS on your car. I didn't bother with the reverse signal because I don't think it makes a huge difference to the satnav and the speed signal comes from a pin in the ISOs, although it is also listed on one of the other connectors, this time I didn't wire it up and it all still works, not sure what it's needed for.

Sorry, in this place was a stupid question which I found the answer to.
