HOWTO: Diesel delivery valve leaks

Sorry, I didn't get the Orings as I was waiting for some vuiton type then I don't have the part number. The dealer will have them anyway. I would be more then tempted to change stealer and call another as the one you have is obviously incompetent...

I've been on the phone to the parts man. I have now sent him a full list of the part numbers required and lets see how I get on. I need to get my E300D back on the road - i'm borrowing the old mans W124 E200 manual and it's not that nice to drive at all - but cripes it feels light comparied to my old girl!

Help

Hi
Great write up thanks.

This is exactly what I tried to do on my 92 reg e300d non turbo.

I did exactly as you described, but encountered 2 problems,,,

1 my spline socket would not fit down far enough onto the valve, it doesn't go down enough to have the spline bit onto the teeth of the valve. It's a laser tools part 5471 and I have been assured its the right one! Any ideas?

2 when I gave in and put it back together, it now runs with a load tapping noise from me of the injectors, I think dirt inside? I tried to keep things clean somim gutted, what's the cure for this please?

Thanks

i had the same problem with my laser tool, inside the socket the spline/smooth section needs grinding out a little as the ridge gets caught on the valve shoulder.

so... i have done the seals... have been cranking for some time and it's barely catching on one cylinder. now i have a new problem - even though i was being careful the starter is now not responding at all. dunno if the selinoid has gone, or is there a sneaky fuse about?!
Any likely culprits?

The starter issue was only the imobiliser cutting in.
All done some weeks ago and she's still dry as a bone :-) , not a leak in sight.

Well worth doing, have noticed a slight improvement in fuel consumption too as a result of diesel getting into the cylinders rather than on to the road!

The downside is that motorbikes now tend to follow a bit closer.

....awesome how to m8...........make sure you get all that diesel off your hands when you are done.....really bad for your skin!!!...and you.

I did mine yesterday and the Laser tool fitted just fine.
All six O rings were either hard or split so leaking or close to.

The job was easy, just needed the top of the pump to be clean before starting and then as each valve holder is removed, clean it to stop any dirt ingress on assembly.

The engine fired without issue after about one minute of intermittent turning over.

The O rings and crush washers as removed.

I've been putting this job off for some while, so am really pleased to have done it.
