This is a cosmetic upgrade, the brake pads are not removed from the calipers
so this is not a full on MOD more of the lazy mans way :) there are plenty of others ways to do this,
i suggest you look them up before you start. As for me this does the job just fine :)
...............................................................................................

What you need:
* Caliper Paint (Your Colour)
* Steel Brush
* Rust Converter (Optional)
* Plastic Bags
* Sheet
OK i got new rims with thin spokes, so i need to paint my brake calipers..
Get rid of that horrible rust colour.

Step 1:

loosen the bolts on the wheel before you jack up the car, if you are using a
normal car jack as if you don't the wheel will just spin and you'll have to
jack it back down again.... Pain...

Step 2:

Jack the car up to about this height, or what ever hight you feel comfortable
working on. Make sure the car is on a level surface all that stuff for safe
jacking procedure.. Or put it on your lift which everyone has and do all four at once :)

Step 3:

Get a wire brush as scrub the calipers heavily until ALL rust is off, your calipers should go a silvery colour when you have done, take your time here
do it properly if will help the job last a lot longer. Once you have done this
if you are not happy with the amount of rust you have taken off. E.G. there
is still a lot left apply a "Rust Converter" this is a liquid that devolves all the
rest of the rust..

Step 4:

Now, i used a plastic bag to rap around the disc, slip it front and back. make sure the whole disc is covered. I used a flat head screw driver to push the back tight into all the spaces around the caliper. Again take your time here
do it right, you'll be in tears later if you don't.

Step 5:

Cover all the area around the brakes. I used an old sleeping bag :) lol real
DIY here.. use a sheet anything just cover it up INCASE any paint goes
astray, it most likely wont but just incase you don't want paint on your car.

Step 6:

Spray away, as many coats as you like i did 5 per caliper. The trick here is
to spray left to right, right to left and so on. Do one coat then wait 5 mins,
then re-apply....

Step 7:

Once you have done your coats leave it to dry, i take the back off so that it
does not stick to the caliper and mess up the paint work. I left it for around
20 - 30 mins to dry..... it's up to you really..

Step 8:

Put back on your wheel and lower down the jack, and you should have some
sweet as new brake calipers. Paint in any colour you wish. The one i used
was "Satin Black"...

To do the rest of the wheels do exactly the same thing. I did two in one day
then the other two the next. I don't have very good patience so this slowed
me down.. which is the key, Take Your Time :)

Nice write up, nice car and really nice rims :)

Did you take the pads off? As you didn't mention them?

I had mine done when pads were changed to greenstuff. The calipers were shotblasted then painted, but as you say there is a lazy man's way. Good write and pics.

great write up & will give mine a go at the weekend. by the way what are those wheels called? they look fantastic!! :thumb:

Very nice
