HOWTO: Front Door Card Removal - Facelift W202

While wiring up my front doors for the courtesy lamps I thought it would be nice to post some pics of how to remove the door panel. If your door looks anything like this then it should apply to you:

First pop the SRS badge off the airbag cover:

take out the screw behind it:

Pull the outer part of the grab handle until it comes off, it's not easy but you can slip a screwdriver in the gap at the top to ease it out, be careful as the panel is very easy to damage.

Behind that is two more screws, top and bottom, take them out:

take the screw off the plastic piece around the lock end of the door:

then take the plastic piece off:

pull the panel away from the door, carefully but firmly all the way around the panel, it will pop as each clip comes out of it's respective eye. When the whole panel has come loose, release the inner door handle by pushing the gold hook down through the lever then slip the cable under the clip:

one naked door!

Put the panel somewhere safe where it won't get damaged:

To put the panel back, read this thread backwards!

Here is a nice pic of the before/after merged:

Did you get a close up of your Bose speaker?

There was another missing (possible cutbacks at MB!) so I need to buy three panel clips.

Don't bother.

Good fronts and a Sub in the boot, anything else in the back is a waste.

What you want is 203 speakers. Whatever mercedes have done to them they are MUCH improved over the 202 ones :D

Nick, I think you had better start a W202 Bose thread!

Have you any pictures of the BOSE amp? Where is it located?

Is everyone looking....................now we know how to nick them at the GTG, who is going to keep Shude talking?

Only Kidding Shude, nice pics and very informative.

I just did the driver's side door.

Grr I hate taking my car apart! I broke 3 more clips as the panel came off, and one as I put it on, I had to swap two screws around because the last person to take my door apart put them on the wrong way (who was that?!) and when they re-assembled it they put the inside door handle hook on upside down! Took me a while to get it out of the lever. Those two screws were quite different, there was a self tapper going into the plastic piece around the lock, that should have been in the underside of the panel holding the speaker cover on (which explains why it popped off when I removed the panel!).

I wish people would at least try to put things back together the way they found them!

What where the cable ducting is?
Plenty of room back there apparently, I will try to take some pics of the amp, assuming I find it :)
