Hi all

I've heard of people doing hpi's and getting free driveway insurance in the past with rac.. But can't see this on their site..

Does anyone know which company is offering the service. And does it apply to private purchases or is it just when buying from a trader?

Many thanks

I've used it before.
It is a way of selling you insurance as they get all of your details, but it's a very useful way of getting seven days for free.
IIRC you ask for it at the time and they pass you through to the insurance company.
Here

A lot of dealers are offering drive away insurance (we were out last weekend buying a new car for SWMBO as her TDCI spat out it's turbo)

I have used it as well on a couple of occasions when buying cars.

It works quite well, all that happens is that they then send you a quote in the hope that you would consider taking out a full policy with them.

But there is no obligation to do so.

Yeh I tried it when I bought the M5 and they said they can't insure me on a policy but will give me the 7 days fully comp anyway.

Thanks guys

So I take it this scheme is only when purchasing from a dealer or registered trader?

No. You can just do a HPI check yourself on any car and get it.
