anyone "know anybody" who uses this stuff (as mentioned in the Sunday Times yesterday) which claims to hide your number plate from speed cameras?

Does it work?

Yep, its so good you can spray your whole car with it and make your whole car completely invisible to cameras :p

Seriously, dont waste y9our money or your license.

The problem with this stuff is if a Police car gets behind you and it has a video camera!!

You do not need to be doing anything wrong, the camera will struggle to see the registration number and then you are in deep do do's?

If you coat the whole car in the stuff then perhaps the Police car will not know you are there?? ;)

You could be caught quicker than you think.....

Parking wardens around here issue a ticket and take a photo of your number plates and tax disk 'for their records'.

If the spray lives up to its word then it could be useful BUT I would be wary of risking my licnese. Suppoe if one was to utilise the product then it would be useful to get the spray and practise taking pics with digital camera/normal cameras urself on the plates to see the results

I may possibly be interested in this stuff but like others have mentioned there is risk of traffic cops with surveilance cameras cathcing u out BUT should u get taken to Court then they would have to PROVE that you that sprayed ur plates with the product... ;)

Its much easier to spray chain lube on your number plate and then empty your hoover bag onto it.

Its kind of hard for the authorities to get a conviction for a dirty number plate. ;)

Well....

1. Telling folks on t'internet that you are considering this is not a good start.

2. Why would they have to prove you sprayed it? Simply driving the car with it on might just be enough for an Attempt to pervert the course of justice (worst case, and you get arrested...) OR Failing to display a legal plate (least case, upto £1000 (?) fine).

I doubt that PLODD would refer specifically to this forum...

One could argue in court if the plate is physically visiable to the naked eye then how is the driver guilty of failing to display a legal plate, etc. Obviously, there is a risk involved BUt they would have to prove that u sparyed the plate urself to pervert the course of justice first...

my plates may or may not already have been sprayed with it. I do not know.

John,

You saw that episode of Roadwars on SkyOne as well eh? :) Two cops were following a VW Golf and thought his plate looked a bit sus' as it was perfectly visible to their eyes but their camera was having difficulty reading the letters. He was not driving illegally in any way. The police followed the Golf to a petrol station where the driver was filling up. The narrator of the show said that although the driver did nothing wrong in terms of his driving, he was prosecuted for concealing his number plate and had the proverbial book thrown at him. Not sure whether the driver had points on his licence or not but I imagine he got a hefty fine.

Hi Steve,
That certainly describes the incident. I am a sad person that when bored flicks from channel to channel so could not recall the actual program. :)

John

Hi Flash,
Reckon your onto a looser with this one, but go ahead and try.

The registration number has to comply with various regulations, specifications, but attempting to pervert the course of justice is a real good 'un. The penalties for this are simply not worth the hassle. (For the average responsible family person)

The hiring of a competant legal advocat is going to cost far more than the fine (unless you are looking at a disqualification).

I am sure there are forums that encourage this type of behaviour and then cry foul when they get prosecuted.

Just remember how you have objected to anyone trying to get off with a speeding offence! ;)

Take care,
John

John,

The thought had seriously crossed my mind i.e. when having a blast on motorways every now again (when safe to do so - its good to have ablast every now and then when safe to do so without endangering anyone...) - but as others and urself have pointed out I now realise it is a serious offence.

Erm. No.

You drive around with a sticker/spray/sign/small child covering your plate, you are responsible. Does not matter who attached said sticker etc etc.

I was refering to the PLODS that would in theory catch me on the roadside IF i was to use the spray on my plates (referring to this forum)

I'm aware there are PLODS on here...

Spray is not as obvious though to the naked eye but still illegal... :p

I was at Auto-Italia yesterday and some guy had a stall selling this stuff. I wasn't too sure if it worked but he had a camera set-up with two number plates.. one sprayed, and one without...

clicked the button and showed the results on the screen. Sure enough, the sprayed plate was light a blob of white and the other showed clear as normal.

Now, I wasn't too convinced because of 2 reasons;

1 - The camera he used was a SLR digital.. and probably set-up to give the results they wanted.

2 - the distance between camera and plate was about 2 metres.. max. Not exactly realistic.

Frankly i'll stay away from this.. as i wouldn't want to be the guinea pig to see if this works.. but if there are other volunteers

I'm not sure if the issue is 'if it works or not' but that if you have the stuff sprayed all over your number plate and it does work and you are unlucky enough to be stopped by the police then you will be treated with little to no sympathy as in the eyes of the law if you are using the stuff then you are trying to evade the law for whatever reason.
