On the 31st March 1941 the exchange rate meant that 5.06 Hungarian Pengos were worth $1 US.

By the 31st July 1946 all the Pengo currency in circulation was worth 1000th of 1 US cent, or 4.6 x 10 to the power of 29 per $1 US.

The worst inflation rate the world has ever known.

Gordon Brown wasn't around then was he ?

Apparently prices were announced on the radio in shops every half hour or so and would change by the time you finished queueing (by quite a lot). Wikipedia has a nice photo of pengo notes being swept away on a street!
