hypothetical spend £20k to get into MB - what would you buy and why?

Currently works out to £193 + VAT = £231.60/month with a payment profile of £500 + 9months + 23 months = £7911.20 = £329.63/month average.

I used the hypothetical figure of £325 purely as a guide based on what it had cost us with the Galaxy (roughly), and wanted to keep cashflow similar:-
We paid £5k up front, then 60 @ £310, the motor was around £20k, and probably £7k trade now. So in my eyes we may as well have leased as all we've bought is depreciation (not that we didn't know that at the time, but personal circumstances dictated it). Leasing now looks like a way into a new car every two or three years. Working on the figures above and assuming finance would be similar as interest rates similar to back then, we'd end up with say a 3 year old car which would be 8 yrs old when paid for plus that' s with a massive deposit up front (most of the equity from the Galaxy).

Pace gaining on the lease front with Madam JB.
What are "must-have" options on the E class (and how do options affect leasing a car?).
Mrs JB has asked about how easy it is to put her plate onto a lease car, its worth a couple of grand so I need to be careful there, could always put it on the Saab I suppose.
Finally:-
E220 vs E250 vs E350 engines. Discuss?

To be fair if it's AMG line an e coupe comes very well specced as standard. I'm sure Comand is standard if it isn't though I'd have it. If pan roof isn't much more I'd add that too. Nothing else I'd add.

If your thinking of cost then E220 Cdi. If you want to be able to pull the skin off a rice pudding e350cdi but I would imagine it's substantially more.

Twin turbo 4 pot MB 2.1's are surprisingly nippy, including the 220.

Torque rules on the road.

Will be a saloon or estate not a coupe Stuart

My C220 feels as quick as my 2001 E39 BMW 535i (which was a V8) did...the 0 to 60 times and top speed are identical...plus does twice the MPG. Sounds **** though...

Did you drive the 535 While sober? People talk about them being as quick if not quicker than M car's?....There is no replacement for displacement!:thumb:

Tony.

The E39 535i was 'only' 235hp...so was quick, and sounded great, but wasn't epically fast. I had it for 2 years and did about 30k miles in it. £100 a week in fuel got very boring to be honest. Excellent car though, and there is nothing quite like a V8. Unless it's a V12 :-)

On the W205 C Class, there is a Premium and Premium Plus pack option upgrade.

Premium and Premium Plus packages.
Why not look over our equipment packages to enhance and personalise your choice of new car? If you want to increase your comfort and add the best in entertainment to the Sport and AMG Line, the Premium packages do just that. The Premium package features ambient lighting; the KEYLESS-GO Comfort package for effortless entry, exit and starting; the Memory package for the front seats; and a panoramic glass sunroof to brighten up the cabin.

The Premium Plus package contains the same features as the Premium package, plus the highly sophisticated Burmester® surround sound system and COMAND Online with an 8.4-inch high-resolution colour display, navigation with 3D map display and internet connectivity. Both the Premium and Premium Plus packages are only available with automatic transmission.

You need to get latest specs, some of which can be found by pricing up a car on the likes of Orange Wheels
A month or two back they were changing specs & you could order either old or new spec at the time.
250CDi may have gone from the lineup as it was only euro 5.
They seem to swap from proper leather to artico every few months, I guess depending on how good sales are!
We have bi-xenons on ours & they are excellent although I think they have been replaced by "intelligent LED's".

Drove one and errrrm not for me. We have a C250cdi on lease at work for one of the girls its performance is woeful compared to the 350

E39 vs a much newer c220cdi is not really a fair comparison. I had a 335i e90 and can assure you a c220cdi or 250 for that matter would see where it went let alone a e.

I am simply saying the C220's and E220's are not slow...7 and a half seconds to 60 is plenty quick enough for most people. The price difference between a 220 and a 350 would more than likely be prohibitive for the OP.

...and comparing a 305hp E90 that gets to 60 in 5 secs to a C220 or C250 isn't a fair comparison either...

You made it!:dk: Dont compare early 2000's to new models then!

Tony.
