Just found this thread purely by accident. The car looked pretty reasonable, and it's a shame; I'm sorry to hear it turned to a can of worms. As for buying sight unseen, I hope you gave him a 60% deposit? That's obviously more than the square root of the b****r-all you paid...

What happens to the private plate in these circumstances?

The plate goes back to the dvla as no mot, car cost me £0 so beyond time and few £ to a tame mechanic it's not too much of a loss. Am looking at a plan B at the mo.
