I keep finding myself admiring the new Mondeo estate when I see them......

I'm a huge estate fan, I have a dog and a partner who requires ocassional use of a wheelchair, estates are just so much more practical for me.

When the lease car comes up I'm considering buying something (purely for flexibility) used and running that for a year or two to see how the costs compare.

The thing is, I need it to be sensible in this current climate, things are tough and I can't go splurging wads of cash on luxuries so anything upto around £15,000 is sensible.

The thing is this buys a whole lot of Mondeo.....see link above.....more disturbing is I actually like the styling.

But it's a Ford and I really don't like velour/cloth seats..It just seems such good value for money...am I losing my marbles?

They are very good cars, I wouldn't be upset driving that, it's even got a sunrrof which is rare these day. They are huge too, bigger than the new V70!

If it's good enough for James Bond, it's good enough for me.....

I reckon your marbles are in place still

Your marble, and granite, is still in tact. Having had 2 of them over teh years I rate the Mondeo as the scond best thing Ford ever made.

No doubt Saunders will be in soon with his 2p worth.:)

Ratz was very pleased with his Mondeo. At least he has not be back to say anything different. Couple of guys at work have the Mondeo Estate, no issues, no worries they are just quietly pleased with them. They would buy Ford again, they have not had Mercs but I cant temp them away. Better the devil -. So marbles intact - Its just that apparent step down we would find hard. Unless you are minted it takes a long time to work up to a Merc and you dont really want to leave the marque once you have got there. Ego might take a bit of a dint going down to Ford too, maybe not tho.

Good, well made and well designed cars. Don't know about customer service, but it can't be any worse than my local MB dealer.

My daily driver is a Saab, it's the value for money of the Mondeo that attracts me and the fact it's still got a couple of years of warranty remaining. Seems like such a good deal.

I got a new Mondeo Ghia six weeks ago, and I actually rate it. It's well equipped, looks good and goes well, it's enormous too.

OK, I don't have leather (for the first time in probably ten years), but the seats are comfortable. Mine has fake 'mocha' wood instead of fake 'silver' plastic, which I infinitely prefer, and I don't have an Engine Start button, but at least that means I have somewhere for the phone cradle to go.

And I think the estate is the best looking of the range.

I've had both, and I'd buy either again, depending upon what I needed and what was available.

Not an issue for me, but as I've said once or twice before, I don't give a toss what complete strangers think of me, and people I already know judge me on the person, not the accessories.

Some new Mondeo estates going into the council licensed taxi fleet here all tdci's of course, but they are a very nice car very well screwed together and it is a stunner to look at, much nicer than saloon and hatch, IMHO. (Still plenty of MBs in the fleet naturally)

I've had mine for nearly a year now and its been fine. I'll happily have another when the time comes.

I run a Mondeo estate TDCi for normal daily driving.

Earlier this year on a trip to Scotland it gave me an average mpg of 53 over 1,400 miles, which I was extremely pleased with. Although it's got some bells and whistles I would like on my W124 E320 cabriolet, the Mondeo is not a patch on the Mercedes re quality. However, the Mondeo style pleases me.

Do you know! I looked at that and I really like them. I'm thinking of replacing my Astra estate. However I still really like it (the Astra)

The only thing with the Mondeo is poor performance, my Astra has 150bhp and returns 50+mpg, and thier a bit bling....! Although there is a more powerfull diesel comming out now at 170bhp. I think....?

I reckon you can't go wrong with it, good luck and I think good choice. ;)

Mark.

I considered the mondeo estate when I got my E class extate - there's not that much in it in size terms. Two things held me back: first, that the highest power diesel Mondeo at the time was 140bhp - bit slow for me (I was coming out of a 535d touring...); and second, that they were new to the market so I was looking at a new one individually specced (to get the spec I wanted, and that I have on the Merc), so the depreciation would have been crippling, even though servicing etc would have been much cheaper.

However, if I was in the market now, it might be a difference outcome, with some decent spec Mondeos available s/hand.

Superb choice. I'd happily consider a mondeo (i've had 2 in the past and both really nice cars).... you do need to spec them right though to make them feel more luxurious. I had Ghia X spec which was top at the time.

A 2nd hand W211 estate would be my choice though ;) and at the moment is the only thing that would potentially pull me out my W124. i doubt thats going to happen for a long time yet though!

Mine is a MkIII, perfectly able car, hoot to drive, fast enough, hits 45-50mpg on general average; no it ain't a Mercedes but it's a decent car...

Cambs Police use the MkIV Estate (which I agree is very attractive) as one of their choice estate vehicles for the dog crews; they can't be wrong ;)

Seem a popular car, honestly I wouldn't bother with a diesel I'd get a petrol engine as I specifically want Auto.

There are certain options that are must haves in a car for me, Auto, Heated Seats and a decent stereo. Other than that I'm not wholly bothered.

The car in the original link looks well specced and if I was looking for one of these it would be an outright purchase and I'd probably keep it until it was two and half years old then change it.

Having new cars now provides me with a peace of mind with regard to major component failure costs. Can't beat a manufacturers warranty.
