I have an itch to buy another Merc advise required

I have recently been seriously considering buying an R107 and even though I am familiar with quite a few of the other models from the same era I am largely unfamiliar with this one.

I just want to get a feel of what to look out for and which models are the best to go for i would really like a V8 but would consider a well sorted 300?
