The petrol station attendant would laugh every time I locked the car before coming in to pay for petrol. Up to the day that someone drove off with a car parked with the keys in the ignition.
People assume that because the distance is very small from the car to the cashier that there is some magical halo protecting their car. Obviously that is not true.
That same person was later heard to say "it's a good idea to lock your car - I would never have thought of it myself"
That's quite an interesting use for an ebay auction, although i have seen worse! I do have sympathy for the owner of the car but the listing is a bit "in your face". And the fact that he is offering to give US the reward when HE finds the thief is a bit odd...
Anyway best of luck to him and anyone else who can keep their eyes peeled for a mk5 White GTi
There have been reports of people getting into the unlocked car when you are off paying and then hiding behind the drivers seat, to pop up and hijack the car (or worse) when you are off down the road. Probably even more important to remember now the dark nights are here.
Also, people have been known to quickly open the door, take away your phone/satnav/wallet etc aswell.
Always lock the car.
also, i think driving around at night it is worth locking the doors. My wife had a friend who was driving through a town centre, stopped at the lights and a guy got in the back seat and refused to get out!! Luckily he was pi$$ed and i think thought it was a taxi but it could have been a much different story!
