Im in that "change car" mood at the moment but in reality I doubt I will change the CLS just now but in the past I have been impulsive and if the E Coupe 500 sport would have looked a bit sexier than it does I would have been tempted.

The pillarless design is lovely - its so smart having all 4 windows down but the rear haunches look odd and even fat 18`s are lost in the arches. The interior isnt as special as the CLS and the screen seems tiny.

On the way home I stopped at the Audi garage to look at the A5 sportback but its not out yet but im keen to see it in the flesh as it looks interesting with a great interior. Ive never had an Audi so maybe thats the next one to sample.

Then getting in the CLS to razz home down the M53 and the engine melts me yet again, there is not an engine comparable with the blown 5.5 IMHO so all bets are off again for now.

Every Audi I've been in recently has left me feeling cold. Interiors seem to put quality of construction over quality of design, seats are hard and uncomfortable. Ride is shocking. Recently had a run in an A3 cabrio - brilliant little car, quick, quiet, but horrible ride. Even the A8 makes me think "why".

Yes they look very crisp and clean from the outside, and have a far less "architect / interior designer / hairdresser / pretty boy" image with the bigger grill and sharper creases than they used to (remember the older A6 - not so much designed, more drawn as a series of stupid gay compound curves), but they just don't have the feel of a BMW / Merc, they feel slow and heavy after driving the competition.

Me too.

I find them soulless, unimagnative, boring and repetitive.

I don't get them at all.

Even the R8 looks ridiculous.

Dave,

I quite like the E Class Coupe but am equally keen to see the new A5 Sportback. Launch date is 3 Oct.

Ran an Audi A6 for 3 years after MB
It didn't excite me
It did everything it should do. Nothing fell off. Nothing rusted.
But - boring!
