In recent times, what with all the time i spend on the motorways, I began to get disheartened by all the road works, the middle lane hoggers, the general bad driving that everyone has learnt to grow and love in the uk..

But today I had a call to pop down to another RAF base, about 40 mins drive from here.. and i remembered that there was a nice A road and some nice tight and sometimes flowing twisty b's nearby..

So... on my way back from the base i decided to take a wee detour onto these lovely roads.. ohh yeah.. the golf loved it.. and it put a beeming smile on my face..

So during times of horror and disgust.. Drop a cog in the twisties and enjoy it...

Enjoy it legally while you still can.

The Government is proposing to reduce the national speed limit speed limit on single carriageway country roads to to 50 mph and enforce it with average speed cameras.

On certain B roads an average speed of 50mph is a positive challenge .

Fun is still there to be had :D

I challenge them to cover Northumberland with the average speed cameras, there is no traffic here apart from the single lane A1!
I think I can safely still enjoy the british roads for many years to come.:bannana:

Spring is coming, roads might be a bit drier... just waiting to get out there in earnest :D

I miss the old road rally days in the 205... i've had to make a deal with the missus that i wont modify my next car (which is to be a merc C230K) lol.. but she said i can have a track toy... so i think im going back to being a big kid and getting a 205 or maybe some really old 320i

:d winner ....

I'm really quite lucky when it comes to open roads back home, we have all the country roads leading out towards the coast and all the brecon mountain runs too..

-I love wales haha-

This is already happening (happened) on safe 'A' roads near me without legislation changing... It really does drive me insane and it won't be long before we revert to only needing a maximum of 4 gears again!

The irony is that I'm trying to get the council to lower the speed limit directly outside of my house due to numerous near fatal road incidents....you'd think it'd be easy particularly with all the photographic evidence I've supplied of wrecked cars but no, it'd be easier for me to paint the words 'SLOW' for a 2 mile section with a toothbrush than it would be for them to even consider it. Apparently, if someone dies then they 'might' look at it

I agree, the roads can be superb....unless, that is, you get stuck behind the countless tractors that insist on driving at 15mph and take up two thirds of the road

Best roads I've experienced in my lifetime are those in New Zealand....simply outstanding road surfaces, for the most part, and very little traffic.....heaven!

There may be a price to pay for fun roads.

I guess one of the reasons Norway is a little bit safer is you have to slow down to appreciate scenery like this:

I was there last Easter - amazing drive on the Atlantic Road - and a lot less cars than the UK

i drove from huntingdon to cambridge saturday night and i nearly died of boredom, damn average speed cameras

i dare not do more than 70 as i refuse to get any fines

in the good old days that was a 5 min drive, now its 15 mins

they have taken all the fun out of driving

then when i get there on the main highstreet with the university arms on they have put up yet more no go signs

we should all stop driving for a month and then see how much they need us and our monnies

Totally agree-We should def. stop driving for a month but we have no chance of having any impact as not everyone would!!!

Mmm, might need to slow just a tad to take that bend!

One of the joys of living down here is that we have all the roads over the downs and between the villages. Currently they are all 60 mph but if they drop them to 50 mph a lot of them will still be challenging.

Best get out and enjoy the whilst we can :)

you used to drive at 210 mph? :D

we should all stop driving for a month and then see how much they need us and our monnies

or if everyone stuck to the speed limit - civil obedience can be very powerful
