I need a parking sensor

One of my rear sensors is intermittantly failing so need to replace it.

Just rang my Stealer and they say 47 pounds for the part but needs to be painted. They use a company that will charge about 30 pounds to paint it.
All seems a bit steep to me.

I thought you could order pre-painted parts?

Anyone know how I can get a pre-painted one?

Can you not just order it unpainted? Sure they do this for other bits of trim/bodywork?

Indeed you can order it unpainted.
But I was hoping to buy one pre-painted, as I'm sure that would be less than the 30 pounds extra they say an after market spray job will cost.

Last year, I ordered a piece of bumper trim for my W220. Your could order it primed ready for painting or pre-painted for about a tenner extra.

Surely the same must apply for parking sensors?

Interestingly, I entered part number A001 521 74 18 in to here and it comes up with SENDER UNIT £41.92

If I use the same part number and add 9744 (brilliant silver) it comes up with SENSOR £36.77

This suggests the painted part (if that's what it is) comes out cheaper.

Can anyone else confirm how they ordered a replacement parking sensor?

Hmm, didn't think of that.
Might have to call my Stealership and ask, but don't think they know what they're doing really.

just get a spray can in your colour from the dealer.. around £10... a light misting twice will be fine.

I dont have the paint for that. The inchape price is good though. I would buy it from them and paint it yourself with the spray cans available from MB.

I've got some Halford spray paint in the garage from when I did some work on my W202.
Will that be ok?

Rear left outter according to STAR.

But it's interrmitant as sometimes it works fine, at others it goes into fault mode and shuts down.
In your experience, could this be something other than a failing sensor?

Just to advise that I've replaced the sensor and all is good now. Instant remedy. :bannana::bannana:
