We were away for the weekend with friends and the conversation went to cars and their used values , I mentioned that my wife had only been offered £2000 for her 2011 W169 and that it was worth a lot more than that to her as it hasn't put a foot wrong in 8 years and there was nothing else out there to match it for build & quality at 5 times the price.
OH OH - here it comes - I said that the biggest problem with the car was that it could well be written of if it was involved in even a minor collision.
2 days later -

HGV reversed into it whilst parked. The thing is built like a panzer tank and the main structure is undamaged and the insurers have OK'd the repair. One very relieved wife.

Ouch ! Hope everything goes well with the repair. Some cars stand up better in collisions.

My Jaguar XF was written off just weeks after Jaguar finally agreed to replace all four doors.
The VW Polo which hit me was repaired.

I'm hoping there's no hidden damage to the running gear when it was pushed sideways , apparently the HGV tractor unit rocked when it hit the car.

Was the car parked next to the curb it is straddling in the photos and pushed up and over it by the truck ? If so I would suggest wheel alignment/damage might have occured.

Similar story with my e320 cdi (w210).. Had the car around 10 years and its never missed a beat! Yes it had the famous rust issues which pretty much all w210's come with but all that has been welded and fixed. Anyways driving back from work in September and was talking to a friend about what I personally value my car.. considering it has had £2500 on rust repairs and is a solid motor mechanically its not the average e320 which are going for around the £1000 mark. Moments later a lady reversed into the car whilst I was parked... Insurance came back with a valuation of £1250 and car was written off. Eneded up buying the car back for £70 if i remember correctly..

Your a bit luckier the fact yours wasn't written off, but a car this age I dont think it matters if its categorized.

My wife would have been really upset if it had been written off. I think that buying it back would have been top of the list but there was a bit of a kink in the inner sill which would have needed specialist equipment to fix.

It looks great! I bet your happy having it back.

Just need a bit of tyre shine on those wheels ;)

My wife's really happy, I'm surprised they didn't write it off , the initial quote was over £2500 . The door alone was listed as £520 , skin only ????
We had a Skoda Fabia as a loan car for two weeks - well impressed - too much hard plastic everywhere but a really good drive. Two things my wife didn't like was the absence of automatic lights , ended up driving with headlights on all the time , and although she has no interest in cars she didn't like the Skoda badges.;)

If its been classified by insurance as a CAT whatever, the value is lost.
It has not been written off
