Ever since i bought my 190 just over 6 months ago the gearbox(auto)has never been right. It wouldnt kick down with the switch and seemed to be perminantly in economy mode no matter where the switch was.

So today i thought id drop by a gearbox specialist(one we used to use when i was in the motor trade) to see if he could test my kick down switch and to see why the e/s switch didnt seem to work. (here's me thinking its going to be the gearbox brain, or worse, a fecked gearbox!!!!)

When i pulled in i could see they were well buisy but still thought id ask one of the lads if he knew what might be wrong. "ok" he said, "pull the bonnet and il have a quick look" The first thing he said was, " for a start, it looks like your control pressure cable needs adjusting mate, i aint got time to do it now cos im on with another job but if you drop it in one day next week il see what i can do".

I dont like it when they say"for a start", so when i got home i thought feck it, il adjust the thing my self. Thinking that it would'nt make much differance anyway.

How wrong i was. The car now drives like new Take up of power is almost instant as is kickdown. In economy mode it starts off in second and stays in second. Before, it would start in second, pull away very slowly then sudenly kick down to 1st for a spilt second then back to 2nd.

You can realy feel the diferance between E/S on the road. When you click to, S, its a totaly diferant animal It kicks down to 2nd instead of just 3rd(as it did before) and if im going up a hill in 4th at half throttle and put it into S, the thing instantly kicksdown

Im sorry to go on but its just quadrupled my enjoyment of the car. Its like getting it for the first time all over again, only better, cos this time its working as it should.LOL Oh yes, and the fix cost me nothing which makes it all the sweeter

Cheers,
Stu

Glad you have had a result. PS. Glad you have got a "proper" gearbox!
