Can any aftermarket head unit/changer be made to work with the multi function steering wheel. I've been told that the interface lead needed will only work with German makes, ie Blaupunkt. Is there any truth to this or is someone having a laugh?

most of the major brands do an interface kit, I know Alpine for instance do one.

Specialist ICE shops sell interface kits for some car / stereo combos. I bought a unit from my local shop that allowed a Sony headunit that I had fitted to work with the steering wheel controls of my BMW.
