Hi All,

Spotted on a car which I might buy, I'll post the answer tomorrow.

Anyone get the model and year?

Doh!

So it's a US-spec MB, with an expected vMax of not more than 85mph. It has gear change (or rather max revolutions in gear) indices too. So a 4-speed transmission, probably manual.

I'm going with a big heavy diesel. W123, late '70s, early '80s?

Edit: Changed my mind. Same big diesel, but W115, mid-'70s.

85 mph marking was compulsory for all cars in the states of that era. IIRC the speedo would fail if this speed was exceeded by a significant amount.

Crikey! Even for cars built to well exceed the figure - must have been the boom years for repairers. Every Cog has it's Day, I suppose!

No, that didn't happen.

I drove my brothers 84 Camaro over there in 86, and he told me that.
Could have been an urban myth, or perhaps he didn't want me driving his car too fast!

Highlighted 55mph, max 85 - HAS to be U.S. spec.

Nikon D7000 with a 35mm f/1.8 lens. Oh wait, the car model...
