1971 I bought my first Mercedes a 1957 180b, and since then I have only owned Mercs (17 in all ), I have noticed that all the Mercs that I've had, and ones that I have been in all have a certain interior smell that I can tell immediately that I am in a Mercedes.

My brother in law owned a Vauxhall Viva in the 70s and my sister had a Ford Escort and I find that if I get to go in different make of car they all seem to have their own distinctive interior smell that I can still relate to from back in the 70s

Can anyone else tell what make of car they are in just by smell ?

I can't claim that I could tell with any degree of reliability, but it's definitely true that different cars have different scents.

I suspect that Charlie Watts, drummer of the Rolling Stones, may well have the ability. He doesn't have a driving licence, but does have a large collection of different vintage cars that he likes sitting in because he enjoys listening to the engine and the smell of the interior.

My sense of smell is poor but TVRs and glue seem to go together..

Cheers,

Gaz

All the different cars my wife has owned over the years smell the same , hint of clutch.

My Vito smelt horrid from new and continues to do so despite keeping it nice and clean.
In comparison 3 Ford Transits I’ve had (again from new) all smelt quite pleasant.

Sister has a new Vauxhall Mokka. That doesn’t smell great either.

Ive never liked the 'new car smell' - always smells sickly... maybe im alone? :D

My Ponton and my Fintail both had that certain 'je ne sais quoi' old car smell , the others less distinctive .
