If i go past 70mph the car slows down

As some of you know i bought a A class merc 170cdi for girlfriend,was fine until today farthers day, if i go on the motorway and take it pass 70mph the car slows down and wont go pass 2,500 revs, any thoughts, theres no smoke at any speed so not the turbo, if you drive it at 70 mph perfect soon as you pass it, power goes. so 1st gear 2,500 revs 2nd 2,500 rev 3rd 2,500 rev 4th 2,500 revs 5th 2,500 72mph then power loss, then when i came back from my dads perfect did 3500 revs in 3rd ,used rest of gears hit 70+ mph , power loss again
What is this ???
Would a fuel filter cause this, if so ill buy another one..

If it won't rev in any gear usually it's the O2 / Lambda sensor

thats if the car as been stopped and started again, how long(stopped) i dont know,
if i sit in it now, just have done i can rev to nearly 5000,no smoke and sounds smooth, its when its in gear if i drove off now in 1st rev till 4000 revs ok in all gears until i just pass 70+mph (72mph) then limp mode as one member said.. could this be a faulty fuel filter closing ???

It could be many things. Since nothing is showing on your dash to give any hints, I would get the codes read before starting to spend money on things which may not be related. It's probably not the fuel filter IMO.

Can you set an overall speed limit (via the cluster) on an A Class? If so, somebody may have set that to 70 mph.

no not that lucky on this piece of SH*T lol avantgarde, all i can see its got full leather climate and sports suspension, my other mercs cruise and speed limit and active cruise on C Class C230k command..
Just been out hollin lane hit 75mph perfect, come back on the other side of the road hit 72mph and died no power stays at 70/72mph 2,500 revs, good for the girlfriend but for me i do like just a little more speed .. sshhh.
wished i had bought something else but she moaned i would like a merc to.
must have been jinxed at 3 cars

I don't get it. Tomorrow is Monday. The garages will be open. get the codes read, find out the problem and get it fixed. Its not necessarily an expensive fix.
