Driving home from work today, I got about a 1/4 mile away when I heard a bang from the rear. Not a loud bang, but loud enough to hear over the radio. A quick look in the door mirror, I saw a piece of 2x1 lying on the road. Assuming it was that I had ran over, continued and thought no more of it.
I pulled away from the lights 300 yds later and a metal against metal sound appeared, disappearing over 10mph. I could feel the brakes binding and could hear the rear discs rubbing against the pads.
Quick check of the rear suspesion, I could see nothing obvious wrong, however there is quite a bit of play in the o/s/r wheel with the handbrake off (up and down, side to side).
Is my diagnosis of a collapsed wheel bearing correct or am I looking at something else.
thanks in advance
Sean

I don't think it'll be the wheel bearing. But I don't think you should drive it till you've found out what's going on

If you apply the handbrake is there any play. If not then as you suspect it will be a wheel bearing. If there is still play then check the wheel bolts are not loose.
