If you thought AMG badging on on Non AMG cars was bad....

My 124 has a sportline gearshift and genuine AMG 17 inch wheels. Its neither a sportline nor AMG vehicle. However no badges. Is this equally bad?

No, subtle modifications are fine, it's when someone badges their car up when it's blatantly obvious that it's not what it intends to be.

I've got the letters AMG on my Gear Knob :D

Is this allowed ?

Where I used to work there was a hyundai s coupe in the car park badged up as a subaru. Clearly not aiming as high as the lambo / ferrari brigade.

Not a Proton Persona Coupe was it?

I guess my floor mats are a bit naughty but at the same time there are no genuine R129 mats available ( to my knowledge )...

Wont be adding an AMG badge to the rump.... unless I persuade Ian @ 124Works ( and my bank manager) that a one off SL36 Bi Turbo is a good idea.......

.....actually this idea needs investigating...... (and I do mean a 3.6 104 lump rather than being a typo and going for the new 5.5 Bi Turbo... though that would also be even sillier esp if it came with the mct 'box)

Amg badge are for amg cars only !!!

Question from a very happy CL600 owner. Look Im no expert on MB just a proud owner of a lovely CL600. When I bought the car I loved it at first sight , loved the power , loved the toys etc.
It was badged up AMG with all the trim mats etc . To be honest I didnt know what AMG stood for ( still dont) nor cared much. Does that mean that I am some sort of fraud?? Looking for all you "experts " out there to tell me what its all about?
Views please without the sarcasm lol

AMG had no input to the CL600 so really it shouldn't have any badges on it. I know it's personal choice but if we're being brutal it's "posing" - which a CL600 has no real need to do, let's be honest! :)

Ultimately as long as you're happy with what it looks like, it doesn't matter.

However, to a Mercedes 'hardcore enthusiast' I think it actually devalues what car it is and in your case the V12 under the bonnet doesn't need to be hidden....

You're not a fraud - you bought the car because you liked it! It might furrow the eyebrows of purists, but I bet 99% of folk would simply see it for the cracking car that it is.

Remain a very happy owner!:thumb:

Thanks for the positive comments guys, but tell me .............what is AMG what do they do to these cars that is different? Is it factory tuning ?? or just extras. Could they be added later or as factory mods? Sorry to sound like a simpleton but as I say just bought the car for other reasons.

In a nutshell, they were originally a crazy tuning firm that was then bought by Mercedes and are now a lot more common than in the 80s for example.
